Great hike. Great people. Great day.

Yesterday's hike for me was about overcoming obstacles. Was it going to be too hot, was it going to rain, what was I going to wear? Once we reached our destination all of my concerns went away and I was just glad to be in the midst of such a beautiful place. There were different skill levels and everyone went at their own pace. Robin was an inspiration for all. Julia had Dom and laughing so much. Tee was a real trooper. Marco Solo was in a class by himself. Lisa certainly has a way with words. I was especially proud when we reached the half way point and Kazi asked would we like to go back the way we came or continue to the top. You can guess which way we went. Kazi is an amazing guide and we are so fortunate to have him in our group! We are planning another hike in the fall, so get ready because the adventures will continue.

I had an awesome time hiking. I learned a lot about everyone who went. I think that we really bonded as we encouraged each other throughout the hike. There was plenty of laughs. Classic quote " I think I swallowed a bug ." Kasi's response " that's ok it has plenty of protein."....lol. Tee was the best co-pilot ever. Kasi was a great leader and with Marco Solo never a dull moment....lol Dom and Kay had my back when I needed it...l (you know what I mean ) ;-) I was a bless day

Kazi- I left you and Kay messages. Thank you for your encouragement. I'll hold on to my gear for the next one. I'd particularly be interested in a Fall hike. I second Kay's sentiment - I love fall foliage. :)

The hill was fantastic. It forced me to dig deep within myself, accept the challenge before me and conquer the climb. Kazi was a great trip leader. He was patient and encouraging with the turtles in the group. He was knowledgeable about climbing and offered tips to assist us get up the mountain. Michael, a member, was also a great help. Ladies and gents we all did a great job. Let's do it again real soon. Peace

    July 16, 2013

    • dom

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like you are a hiker. I hope you can make the next one.

      July 16, 2013

    • Imma

Thanks Kazi and dom. I hope so too. And yes I am a hiker, I love it because with hiking you get to see the beauty of nature in all its esplendor, angles and dimensions. The little things (flowers, butterflies, mushrooms, birds....) and the big ones (the impressive views where I can stare at the infinite and feel small but part of it) :)

I needed a lot of items from the list that Kazi provided. So I went to Kip Moore on route 17 Paramus New Jersey Jersey. This store is awesome! It is dedicated to the outdoors. I bought a lightweight PVC poncho for only $3.99 and a hat to protect from the sun during the hike.

Carpooling is the way to go for this meetup. Having said that....Kay Dee, I would like to carpool with you if that's ok. I can meet you at your house or anywhere you would like. Count me in for gas, tolls or whatever.

Hi Kazi! Thanks for the info. The website says these trails are "strenuous". I'm NOT whining. I'm just sayin'. ;)

      July 16, 2013

That is a significant distance for me so if I were to go i will certainly need a ride. I am guessing this will be around 6-8 mile hike based on a 2mile/hour beginners pace. I never hiked there so that's good :)

Ok folk, we are a week away form our adventure into the wilderness. So allow me to bring you up to date. First off after consulting with your organizers, I have decided to move the hike to- Bull Hill, Hudson Highland State Park. The drive is a bit longer but more scenic and includes the option of topping off our day with a visit to the quaint, antique shopping village of Cold Spring.

We will be hiking on the Washburn and Nelsonville trails.

it sound like fun im getting excited as well, i havent hike like forever omg lolllllllllllll, so brace for my screamsssss lolllll

    1 · July 14, 2013

  • Imma

Maybe. Since Harriman is one of my usual hiking spots, I get to ask the tricky questions. Where is exactly the meeting point (parking). Which trails are we hiking (so I get a sense of mileage and terrain). Got a hiking GPS so I can map it beforehand

    1 · July 12, 2013

  • Sharon

How many hours will the hike take? I'm considering it.

    1 · June 27, 2013

    • Kazi

That's hard to say. It depends on the group. We can travel mo faster than the slowest member. Plan for 3-5 hours.

      June 27, 2013

  • E

    Dom you are hilarious!

    June 27, 2013

  • dom

Ok people. I'm not showing off but I did a Zumba class and I was on the elliptical machine for 30 minutes today. I kept this hike in mind every minute of the workout. Ok...maybe I'm showing off just a little but keep up!

      June 27, 2013

  • Kay D.

I'm really glad that many of you are getting out of your comfort zone and signing up for the hiking trip. It's going to be a nice outing for us. Maybe Kazi will consent to taking us on another hike in the fall when the leaves are changing. I'd actually like to do an overnight trip with some hiking and other outdoor activities. S'mores anyone?

Thanks Julia and Dom for the helpful tips. Is anyone walking in the Newark /Orange area. I'm available to walk on Mon., Tues., Thurs.,early morning or afternoon. Fri evenings and Sat. and Sun. Mornings.

    June 18, 2013

  • Julia

From my experience boots are best especially because we have gotten a lot of rain this year and there may mud around. As far as food is concern I would bring a backpack with fruit plenty of water, sandwich, granola and other snacks you can eat if we stop or along the way. Big spray is a must.

I know this hike is a month away but I like to be prepared. I have Timberland boots for snow but are sneakers ok? And are we going to brown bag lunch? Lastly, how many hours are we planning to take a hike? I'm getting mentally and physically prepared for this too. I'm walking at least 3 miles for an hour 4 days a week. I went from scared to siked!

Because this hike will be during July, there is a strong possibility the temps will hit the high 80's. Hydrating and resting will keep us safe. The real challenge is mental. Thus, whiners should stay home. ; )

Kay Dee, can you please reach out to Kazi to find out if crying hysterically is allowed? I have a fear of heights and I've never been on a hike. Really pushing out of my comfort zone on this one....

    2 · May 12, 2013

OMG! You are toooo funny. I've never been a real hike before either. We're both taking a chance on this one, but I'm always up for a challenge.

I'm really looking forward to his event. I think it's going to be a great time. However, our fearless leader Kazi did encourage me to tell the whiners to stay home...
