32nd Annual St. Patty's Day Parade in Old Town

Sport your sage-colored skivves and celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a parade in Old Town Alexandria! The parade starts at 12:30.

Let's see how many are interested. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to go, but I'll help set up whatever works for those who would like to. Make any suggestions you'd like. More details to follow once we get some feedback.

Thanks to Dave for holding down the fort (sidewalk) for the group--sorry we missed the rest of the crowd. A bit nippy but a hearty event nonethless,

Everyone - I will try to watch for you, but if you are looking for me I am tall 6'-4" hopefully I will stick out. Please do update your RSVP so I can get a good idea on head count.... this is my first time organizing.

Yes y'all. A 6'4" Christmas tree. Good luck finding him!! ;-P Go to his profile so you can actually see what he looks like. It helps a lot to be able to pick out a familiar face.

I am looking at the a copy of the map I downloaded from the site listed below. I thought we should meet on KING between PITT and Royal accross the street from the reviewing stands. I am not sure how earlier others will be there to mark there spot, but I will get there by 10:30. Since I don't know where I can get space you will have to walk the block and look for me. I could use some help marking our area off. Laurie - you are welcome to bring a chair, but I have not idea if you will be able to see anything. http://www.ballyshaners.org/graphics/2013ParadeRoute.jpg

Great map (wonder why I didn't see it on the Visitor's Center website). The reviewing stand looks like it's on the City Hall (Market Square) plaza--you're proposing just across from that. Because there are elevated areas on the plaza, I may try to chair down there if there is any room left by the time I get there--probably closer to 11.30 or 12. There is a dog show beforehand starting at 11 at the Market Square, so it might be a bit tight.

I am suggesting just accross from the stands because it is more likely we will hear some music being played. I am assuming we will be on street level and it if works out that the is an elevated area to seat great. We will be seating in an area that no one else has claimed - elevated or not. Sorry, that is the best I can promise

where are we meeting? can we have a contact phone number?

    Gail,
If I understood correctly you will not be joining us for the parade. I can be center point of contact. However, it would be helpful if you would provide insights on where we could meet based on your previous experience doing this meetup. Dave

Bless you dear. I will not make it as tomorrow is work on the car day. I have not done this before, so Laurie's idea as to a meeting spot might be a good one. If you could send your phone # around and firm up the details, that would be great.

We're getting down to the count. Any updates on where and when to meet? Possibly at the City Hall, midway point between Royal and Fairfax around 12? For those who can make it that early...

I will be participating in the parade with the Potomac Valley Irish Wolfhound Club. We are in Division 6 this year and will meet on Alfred St. Around Queen or Princess streets. If you get a chance stop by and meet the BIG friendly Hounds of Ireland. In any case, please give us a big cheer as we go by. And the dogs would like a pat on the head also.

I'd love to go, but have difficulty standing for any length of time (foot and back). If the group can find a place where I can bring a chair, I'd love to meet y'all there! The Visitor's Center indicates that the parade begins at Alfred St, runs East on King St to Lee St, then turns Left and ends at Cameron. Their suggestion would be to meet at City Hall, which is 301 King St. That will probably be where everyone else is meeting, however. If anyone has a better suggestion....
