Horseback, Pig Roast, Bonfire, Hayride & Campout @ Shenandoah!!

We will camp right next to this creek - on the other side from where I took this picture today.  When you arrive on Saturday the 28th, PLEASE proceed to the registration area (we will have signs) to register and get your name tag, then you will be able to drive to the field, unload your gear, and then move your car back from the field, so we keep the area free of vehicles and have beautiful 360 degree views of the fields during the day, and the stars at night.  Campers can line the outside ring of the tents on the back of the field, away from the creek.

1:00 Saturday Riders arrive at Secret Passage Ranch - We have thirty riders on Saturday (I'll post the list of who is riding when on the discussion board in the next few days, in case you forgot when you signed up).

Riders will enjoy a program designed to educate beginners and experienced alike. Those who have never ridden will get a lesson in the ring before they ride the valley.

If you are arriving for the cookout / campout, you may arrive anytime after 1:00pm to set up your tent, etc., walk around the property, watch the riders.

5:00  PIG ROAST - Outstanding barbecue -- meat and paper products are included. Everyone attending will be asked to bring a dish to share (that would serve 8), which will make the dinner more interesting and keep the costs down. Please sign up for what you want to bring on the discussion page.

7:00 BONFIRE, Hay ride - marshmallows welcome!

Campout: If you have a tent, please bring and set up before dinner.  There are 6 hookups for campers at the barn; and port-a-potties.

SUNDAY breakfast: We'll have a country kitchen and wrap around porch in the farmhouse to use for breakfast.

SUNDAY RIDE: After breakfast, we have approximately 20 riders.  If anyone who is camping, but didn't sign up to ride, wants to add a ride on Sunday they can do it that morning ($30).  Or a Saturday rider could ride again (additional $30)

WEATHER:  This event will be held rain or shine, unless there is torrential rain.  There is an indoor riding ring where tents could be pitched in case of rain.  And the farm house will hold the group for an indoor dinner and breakfast.  Please bring appropriate clothing in case of cold or rain.

PETS: No cats;  dogs must be on a leash at all times, not left unattended, and must not howl at the moon (or coyotes, or skunks, etc. while people are sleeping ;-)

ADULT BEVERAGES: Adult beverages are welcome (please do not drink and ride though). SECRET PASSAGE RANCH RULES:  OVER-CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND SECRET PASSAGE RANCH RESERVES THE RIGHT TO END YOUR PARTICIPATION AT ANY TIME AND REMOVE ANYONE FROM THE PROPERTY.

For any questions not answered above, please e-mail Heide at [masked]

CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refunds will be made (less Pay Pal transaction fees) until midnight April 7th.  After April 7th, 50% refunds will be processed (less Pay Pal fees) until midnight April 21st.  No refunds will be made after April 21st due to purchase of food/products.

This was my first MeetUp and the whole weekend was fantastic. The meetup guests were friendly and fun and inclusive - one of the the Best Weekends I've had in a very long time. Loved It! Thanks to Heidi for getting me there and taking on this event. Great Job Heidi. Also thanks to Alex. You two made this event a huge success and I'm glad this was my first.

Heide, thank you for working so hard and organizing such a wonderful event. The views were stunning, the folks were fun, friendly and helpful, the food was yummy and the attendees were lots of fun. I've ridden horses before, but Don's instruction on how to properly balance and move with a horse was very helpful.

Wow - what a really fun group! From the moment we stepped out of the car, my friend Claudia and I were made to feel right at home, and it was our first time meeting anyone from this group. People couldn't have been nicer AND the ranch was gorgeous! Best time I've had all year! Thanks to all, Lisa

OMG Thank You! **!!Great Heide & Dottie!!** Wonderful people and lots of laughs... and the orchestration.. superb (folks: you can only image their preparations...). That 'mountain dew' ONLY made it 99.99% perfect but today's weather was spectacular. Those who missed will get tired about hearing of 'the great one'. Thank you past and now new friends.... alex.

Had a wonderful time with a great group of folks. Learned more about riding techniques in one lesson than I ever knew before...along with very well trained horses which made for a great afternoon in the saddle. Loved the ranch environment and an elaborate BYOF banquet. Thank you, Heidi, for all your coordination efforts...SUPER JOB!!!

Heide, Bless you for pulling off this major feat. What a great event. The riding, camping, pig roast for all those people. And that bonfire was AWESOME!!! The ranch and the owner are wonderful. And this group is amazing-even when the weather didn't cooperate-it was cold and raining-there were NO complaints. Hunkered under the tarps to watch and listen to the rain and then everybody just got out and danced in it. Such a great time. Looking forward to the next one.

Greg and Heide..I emailed you and hope you got it. I'm still sick and will not be able to attend. I was scheduled for today's ride and pig roast, but not overnight. Sad...but you all have fun for me?

Heide is at the ranch and unable to respond to questions. She wanted me to let everyone riding know that there will be basic riding instructions prior to riding on both Saturday and Sunday.
If anyone would like to bring cds with dance music, just in case a good old fashion barn dance breaks out, please do. The latest forecast for this event is, fun and laughter, good food and drink, breathtaking views, a cozy campfire , the smell of eggs and bacon crackling in the morning and fresh country air.

Can you please confirm that ALL riders (Saturday, Sunday, both Sat and Sun) riders are asked to attend the riding assessment beginning Sat at 12:30 on Sat? Given the significant change in arrival time for those of us not riding on Sat, (Sun-only riders), if we can't commit to the 12:30 event, is there an opportunity for instruction on Sunday?

I'm sure Heide appreciates the recognition (she has spent DOZENS of hours in communication and logistics already)... let's see how this goes [could be our best outing ever if weather behaves] before we gear up again. Also, history suggests many more changes in attendance over the next 60+ days so STANDBY - as changes occur the first to respond/pay will be given entry.
OH, there were some private emails about "just showing up to enjoy the day" - CAN'T Happen - Rancher/owner won't permit that.

Hey there. This activity looks so popular and fun and the wait list so large, why not plan for another week-end of fun for those on the wait list? JUst an idea to throw out :)

The SAT ride is FULL with 30 riders. 37 R confirmed to camp, and 12 confirmed 2 ride Sunday. I just sent 18 pay pal requests to offer space to cook out/campout/ride on SUNDAY. Those will have until MON at midnight 2 confirm w/pymt, & then I'll keep going down waiting list. If U only put option "A" on wait list, I'm sorry it's no longer available. If U would like 2 come for the roast/bonfire/hayride-it's $15. If U would like to roast/bonfire/hayride/camp it's $25.00. Plz email me if U want these

For those of us who are not camping overnight, but are interested in finding overnight lodging, there are 2 hotels about 12 miles away. There is the Hotel in Strasburg and the Hampton Inn in Front Royal. I want to enjoy the entire day and evening, and may prefer to stay overnight nearby instead of driving back home at night. I checked the Secret Passage Ranch website, but doesn't look like they offer lodging.

Howdy Ya'll, What musical talent: native drums, tambourines, maracas, djembe, guitars, a mandolin, and folks who "can clap" and dance and play CDs! We have 27 confirmed riders on Sat, and 11 on Sun, and 32 campers. Some pay pal requests R still outstanding, & those have until tomorrow night to respond, and then we'll cancel those and start going through the rest of the wait list. If we fill up, I'll see if the ranch can handle more for cookout/bonfire/campout without the ride. Stand by! Heide

All - please do not post your questions about pay pal or registering here on the page. These are going to 100+ people, and right now I am the only one who can answer these questions. To keep down the # of e-mails going to the group, please email me directly. I have no access to email for 12 hours a day, and this is a timely process. Please be patient, and email me, and I'm getting through the messages one at a time. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
