Mount Vernon welcomes the autumn season with Fall Harvest Days. So let's attend on Saturday, October 27 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The different activities will be scheduled throughout the day and the grounds of the estate remain open until 5:00 p.m. We'll get a schedule of the day upon arrival to the estate and plan our course of fun. This way attendees can stay as little or long as they like. We will enjoy autumn activities that include wagon rides, wheat treading in the 16-sided barn, 18th-century dancing demonstrations, a straw bale maze, farrier (blacksmithing) demonstrations, apple-roasting, corn husk dolls demonstrations and early-American games and music. Potomac River sightseeing cruises are half-price that day for those who want to enjoy some time out on the water.
We'll be able to have lunch at the eateries in the shops building. *Note that no outside food is allowed on to the grounds. No pets are allowed.
All of the Fall Harvest Day activities are included in the regular Estate admission of $15.00 for adults. Each person will purchase their own ticket once the group is assembled and we proceed to the ticket window which is located inside the main entrance gate to the Estate.
Bring your camera and your Fall festive self and join me for a fun outdoor day.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL PERSONS ARE TO HAVE A CLOSE UP/HEAD SHOT PICTURE OF YOU AND ONLY YOU WITH NO HAT, SUNGLASSES, OR TOURIST ATTRACTION. WE WANT GEORGE AND MARTHA TO BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE YOU FROM YOUR PICTURE IF WE LOSE YOU WHILE AT THE ESTATE. THINK PASSPORT PHOTO PICTURE AND YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.
Also on this date: Book Reading and Signing
At 3:30 p.m., the author of Mount Vernon's newest childrens book "Mount Vernon’s Magnificent Menagerie and the Very Mysterious Guest," will be at The Shops for a book reading and signing. This charming book, created by a mother and daughter team, is told from the viewpoint of the animals at George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
