Here is our group in front of a memorial that always touches my heart. These are three steel beams from the north tower of New York's World Trade Center, 2 1/2 tons fused together, twisted and jagged, sitting atop a marble platform, on which are inscribed the names of the 68 Marylanders who died in the terrorist attacks. I understand that the beams formed part of the 94th through 96th floors. The hour and minute of each 9/11 incident — from the first plane crash to the final tower falling — is inscribed in the exact position on the largest of the marble platforms to allow Baltimore's World Trade Center to cast a shadow there at the correct time each September 11th, like a sundial. It is then a natural clock as a testament to those lost lives.
