Hey everyone,

Well May is upon us and the next Oxford Internet Professionals Meetup is fast approaching! If it's not in your diary already (and why not!) we're meeting in Copa - a bar on George Street in Oxford and we'll be upstairs on the balcony. If you've not already RSVP'd then please do so at http://www.meetup.com/Oxford-Internet-Professionals/calendar/10153422/

Now a couple of notices for your attention if that's ok...

// June OIP Meetup
Well I thought if the weather is getting better why not do something a little different! So how about a Summer BBQ next month?

If I can find a venue/establishment that can cater for perhaps upto 50+ people and provide some food for a private party would you be interested in coming along?

I want your vote! So please head over to http://www.meetup.com/Oxford-Internet-Professionals/polls/ and cast your decisions now! And if you have any venue/establishment sugegstions or contacts that would be handy to know!

// Summer Internship in Silicon Valley
Yes you read that right! Colin Beattie is looking for an Intern for the Summer - here's what he has to say...

I run a local Internet startup. We are looking for an Intern for the summer to take to Silicon Valley (expenses paid) so if that is of interest please read on.

Last week our startup was funded by the Silicon Valley Seed Fund YCombinator and Venture Capital company Sequoia Capital. We attended our interview, demo in hand, and managed to be one of the 27 companies they funded out of 1000 who tried. The service is a web based marketplace which is still in stealth. It will be launching very soon with the aim of continually iterating the site. Our sales director is hard at it on the phones signing up 20 companies a day, even without a site up. It is an interesting space, relatively uncovered on the Net and a $100 Billion marketplace in the USA.

The aim of the summer internship is to assist the CTO in developing the product towards a particular date 19th, 20th August. These two days are investor day where our backers organise for hundreds of the Valleys top investors to attend their offices in Mountain View and watch us pitch and demo the product. We have 7 mins to do that (YC only gave us 10 to interview). After this we negotiate for Series A funding which will help launch this company in the USA and UK. The internship runs from the beginning of June to the end of August. The intern(s) can come along to the very famous YC dinners every Tue where you will mingle with other YC companies and have very candid presentations from some of the biggest people in the Valley (candid because no one is allowed to report, blog or talk about them dishing the dirt). Post August, and having raised Series A, we will be hiring. 1st, 2nd and 3rd employees will get a wage, equity share and options pool, as well as to live in San Francisco in the most high tech community in the world.

We require knowledge and experience of:

  • PHP
  • LAMP
  • HTML
  • JavaScript / AJAX

We have been advised by our investors not to mention, blog or publicise the fact we have been funded until we have something to really shout about as the marketing leverage that comes with having been backed by them should carry a valuable message about our company too. For that reason I have emailed from my personal email and would appreciate those who are interested to reply with CV, links to examples of work and/or examples of code to: [address removed]

We look forward to hopefully taking someone with us.

So if you're that person this is a great opportunity!

Now I'm really looking forward to next weeks meeting... Do come along if you can - it would be great to see you - don't forget it's Thursday May 14th, 7.30pm upstairs at Copa on George Street, Oxford.

If you're stuck or lost and need to contact me email [address removed] or phone[masked]

Rob.
