Nowhere on this walk are you further than two miles from the centre of Oxford but, for all but a couple of short stretches, the aspect is rural. The route follows intriguing paths through water-meadows, crossing several Thames tributaries as well as the main navigation channel. Many of these paths recall the days when Iffley and South Hinksey were country villages, entirely separate from Oxford. On a modern map, Iffley looks to have been engulfed by the spreading suburbs, but when you get there it is still unmistakably a village - South Hinksey, even now, is set among fields, but the roar of traffic on the nearby Western Bypass is ever present.
We meet at St Marys church near the end of Church Way, Iffley Village (near to this map link).
NOTE: The start point has very limited parking, so if you can get there by sharing a lift, bus, bike or foot that would be a great help and less of an impact on residents of that area of Iffley village.
We start the walk at 7PM sharp. (Please try to ensure you're at the start point at least 5 mins beforehand).
Level of difficulty: Easy
Dog friendliness: under control on farmland and on lead where requested
Estimated walk end time: 9PM
Drinks After Walk
Afterwards, we will visiting a nearby pub for a drink, if enough people want to, but it's not obligatory.
These evening walks are free although we would welcome a small(ish) donation, which goes towards ongoing overhead costs associated with the Meetup service and ancillary costs, or/and you could buy the walk leader a drink too .
For new members or walkers, please read the Walkers Guide thread in the forum.
