  • This was a fun event in 2011. This will only take place if the weather is fine.

The vines are trained at chest height and you simply cut them, chat, sing enjoy the surroundings.  Coffee served about 11am and lunch around 1pm with free wine !

A number of us staying on  in 2011 to watch / help with the pressing of the grapes.

Brightwell Vineyard grows seven grape varieties planted on the flinty chalk greens and and gravel of the Thames Valley, producing white, rosé, red and sparkling wines. Our Wine Shop is situated to the right of the driveway on entry through the wall into the estate. It is open for tasting and sales every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12.00 - 18.00. This is on the same road as the Shillingford Bridge Hotel going towards Wallingford.

If we get 20 pickers the vineyard will be exclusive to OSW members.

There is a bus service back into Oxford & Reading.

Is there any taxi volunteers ? so the pickers can enjoy a little wine with lunch?

OK. I seem to have had a(nother) "senior moment", as I turned up on Sunday. Somehow failed to manage to check, despite my amazement that it should be so early. I thought I posted a question about this before (asking about grape ripeness) but it seems to have disappeared from the thread.

One thing I do feel I have to say.... when I turned up the other week, I noticed there was a large UKIP poster in the window of the house. Now for me this creates a bit of a dilemma - UKIP are anthema to me and to everything taht is importanmt to me, and I am wondering whether I can justify donating my labour free to people who may then contribute to the "cause" of a band of extreme right-wing xenophobes and Little Englanders. I would like to do this - just need to think about this. I feel that I also do have to publicise this, as I'm sure some of the people going will feel the same as I do about this.

It's such as shame, I was looking forward to this, but I agree with Mark, I don't want to donate my time to UKIP. Thanks Mark for informing us.

Sorry, I've decided I can't square this with my conscience - can't donate my labout to UKIP supporters, I'm afraid - wouldn't be able to sleep at night :-)

It's important that the grapes are picked and they start right on time last time. so you do need to be on time.

Is the picking all day, or just the morning?

      September 19, 2013

    • Sandra

Please no later than 8.45 please it runs like clock work. As above you only pick until lunchtime, if you wish to stay on you can watch the pressing process.
