Starting from the Town Hall in Deddington with it's many distinctive honey coloured houses, this circular walk winds its way down Chapmans Lane with fine farmland views open up before you. Leadenporch Farm lies at the centre of the scene. Highland cattle, one of its specialities, are often to be seen in the surrounding pastures.
We reach Clifton, a pretty hamlet o fmainly two-storied ironstone rubble cottages, a number of which date back from the 18th and early 19th century. The Chapel of St James, built in 1853, has been converted into business premises and Manor Farm has a date stone of 1685. The local pub The Duke of Cumberland’s Head dates from the 17th century and has a fine thatched roof.
Further on in the walk there are fine views including the spires of nearby Adderbury and King’s Sutton churches.
We meet in the Market Place Car next to the Town Hall. There is only a limited amount of parking here so you may need to park around some of the nearby mini greens or side roads. Please park considerately for local traffic. The area is better shown in this Map Link
We start the walk at 10AM sharp. (Please ensure you're at the start point at least 10 mins beforehand).
Walking grading: Moderate (Height gain ?)
Dog friendliness: Unknown (mostly bridleways)
Estimated walk end time: 1:15PM
For lunch afterwards, we will be hoping to visit the The Crown and Tuns on the High Street for some of its famous pies (tbc).
If you would like to go to lunch, please post a request for a place at lunch below --------v.
If I don't see a request I will assume "No" for lunch.
We like to reduce the impact on the areas we visit and its sometimes difficult to find places with adequate parking, so we encourage lift shares with our regular drivers.
If you need a lift, please post below indicating that you'd like a lift and from which general part of Oxford and surrounding villages you would like to get picked up. There is sometimes a better chance of being picked up from one of the Park & Rides as people use the ring road en-route. There are some guidance notes on our message boards here.
Please ask for a lift ASAP even if your on the waiting list when you do so as the list is constantly changing.
We would welcome a donation of around £1 towards ongoing overhead costs associated with the Meetup service and ancillary costs.
For new members or walkers, please read the Walkers Guide thread in the forum.
