Since we seem to have a gap in the weather over the weekend I'm putting up this late notice walk where hopefully there is a chance of less mud (no guarantee).
This walk in the Chiltern's is a figure of 8 walk that takes in the villages of Cookley Green and Syncombe. It encompasses some of the Ridgeway and we're sure to see many of the Red Kites soaring overhead.
There will be quiet a number of ascents and descents so please bear this in mind when signing up.
NOTE: RSVP's open at 9pm on 30th January.
We meet in the main town car parking area just off the High Street in Hill Road in Watlington (confirmed free on Sundays). For those with sat navs, select 2 Hill Road,OX49 5AB for nearest point to the correct car park). The area is better shown in this Map Link
We start the walk at 10AM sharp. (Please ensure you're at the start point at least 10 mins beforehand).
Walking grading: Moderate (120m height gain).
Dog friendliness: unknown, mostly paths and woodlands, some minor roads.
Estimated walk end time: 1:30- 1:45 PM
For lunch afterwards, we will going visiting either The Carriers Arms in Watlington or the Leathern Bottle in nearby Lewknor (this pub doesn't take reservations so it will be pot luck)
If you would like to go to lunch, please post a request for a place at lunch below --------v.
If I don't see a request I will assume "No" for lunch. I will confirm list of attendees once I've booked with the pub....please check your on it!
We like to reduce the impact on the areas we visit and its sometimes difficult to find places with adequate parking, so we encourage lift shares with our regular drivers.
If you need a lift, please post below indicating that you'd like a lift and from which general part of Oxford and surrounding villages you would like to get picked up. There is sometimes a better chance of being picked up from one of the Park & Rides as people use the ring road en-route. There are some guidance notes on our message boards here.
Please ask for a lift ASAP even if your on the waiting list when you do so as the list is constantly changing.
We would welcome a donation of around £1 towards ongoing overhead costs associated with the Meetup service and ancillary costs.
The number of the OSW group's mobile is [masked] for notification of delay or cancellation, or help with directions if lost. Details on use can be found on our message board.
For new members, please make sure you are prepared with well fitting boots and suitable clothing for weather conditions and are ready for the length of walk involved. Please acquaint yourselves with the Walkers Guide thread in the forum as well as the NO SHOW POLICY.
