Joint Evening Walk - Wallingford - 3 miles

  • This location is shown only to members

Evening Walks

This is a joint walk run together with the WOW group and is open to members of both groups.

Walk Background

Wallingford is one of those towns that can hold your attention for hours. Its churches are well worth a look, its museum and Town Hall attract many visitors, and the grass covered mounds of its ruined castle serve as a reminder of the bitter struggle for supremacy during the civil war. Wallingford has even made guest appearances in television drama - most recently as the town of Cawston in Midsomer Murders.

This walk visits areas of the town centre, the castle meadow and a section of the Thames path along the river.

Start Point

We meet in the Cattlemarket car park off New Road in Wallingford (as shown in the place link above - entrance is actually on Wood Street).

We start the walk at 7PM sharp. (Please try to ensure you're at the start point at least 5 mins beforehand).

Level of difficulty: Easy

Dog friendliness: mainly on lead or under strict control

Estimated walk end time: 8:30PM

Drinks After Walk

Afterwards, we will visiting a nearby pub for a drink, if enough people want to, but it's not obligatory.

These evening walks are free although we would welcome a small(ish) donation, which goes towards ongoing overhead costs associated with the Meetup service and ancillary costs, or/and you could buy the walk leader a drink too .

Thanks for organising such a lovely walk, Beth.

I didn't manage to get to this walk because the bus never turned up. This is because the roads out of Caversham are clogged up with 100s of cars most with one occupant. Sad to miss the walk but there was nothing I could do.

Wish it would become socially unacceptable to use a car if public transport available and a social faux pas to be the sole occupant.

Yeah, mischievous little me was thinking of snapping all the peeps arriving solely in their cars, then uploading the snaps and adding one word from the caption "We try to reduce impact" blah blah blah to each... Would make an interesting slideshow me thinks? ;-)

Thanks Beth. As I've said on other forums, for similar meetups, great to get out and break up the week. :-)

I may have to go to London to collect one slightly used second hand cat - since the old one died I'm now infested with mice - but will update RSVP. Dog will be v disappointed (if it's the cat)
