We tried this last year but the weather was not great; in fact, I'm not sure the balloons even got off the ground. I'm very excited to give this another try (especially because I was out of town last year and missed it completely).
Note that there is no cost to attend but donations will be accepted to support the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
An event for the entire family comes to Gulfstream Polo Club. The Polo & Balloon Festival has something for everyone, including a weekend of polo, music, hot air balloon rides, food, vendors and more.
Each morning dozens of hot air balloons will take off from the polo field in a mass ascension. Attendees are invited to walk among the six- and seven-story balloons as they inflate and lift off. To honor our servicemen and women on Saturday morning, 20 Marines will be given balloon rides. Be sure to come out and thank them for their service.
Saturday morning's schedule is as follows (I plan on getting there around 6:15-6:30):
6:00 AM: Gates Open
6:30 AM: Balloons Inflate
7:00 AM: Mass Ascension
9:00 AM: Close
Note that if you can not make it at this time, the event actual starts Friday night and ends Sunday so there is a lot of opportunity.
I spoke to one of the coordinators of the event and he told me that we can "bring a friend to volunteer to be balloon crew I'll assign everyone a balloon and they can photograph inflation, flight and landing." He said the balloon crew helps to set up and pack away the balloons and that it's quite the experience.
Here are some pictures from their website from prior events.
Breakfast will be served at the event.
