The PBC Photo Walkers has hosted a meetup at the South Florida Fair the last 2 years and it's been a great event. This year, another local photo meetup group "Photography: The Art of Seeing" has planned a fair meetup on Saturday January 26th (if you're not a member I highly recommend joining) so I wanted to do something different for January this year.
I was kind of sad since a January fair meetup has been such a great tradition these past two years. I have been a little desperate to come up with a January meetup since the holidays and an out-of-town trip last weekend kept me busy.
I was trying to think creatively and came up with this... I have a contact at the fair and asked if we would be allowed to visit BEFORE the fair started, during the setup process. It seems that the photo ops would be very different than a regular fair visit. I'm hoping we can at least get some interesting shots, and if nothing else, we can experience the fair in a different way and can still go with the other meetup group during the real fair.
As you probably know, the fair starts a week from Thursday so the ONLY available time for this meetup is this weekend. She thinks that this Saturday at 10 would be the best time. Although I'm really sorry for the last minute meetup, I am very interested to see if this will prove to be the good experience I'm visualizing.
The cost is ZERO and I was told we should park in the main parking lot and meet at Gate 2. HERE is a link to the map of the fair. Gate 2 is by the big expo center and according to this map, I would say the "main" parking area would be near parking lots 1-3. UPDATE - I was told that we can arrive anytime between 10 and 2. If you get there after the group goes in, someone should be at the gate to let you in. Please call me at[masked] if you get there late & want to find me.
LUNCH - I was thinking we could meet afterward for lunch at TGI Fridays, 580 North state Road 7, which is near the fairgrounds (it's between Southern & Belvedere on 441/SR7 on the East side of the road).
