Kayaking from Barton to Carver on the Clackamas

I also posted this meetup with Kayak Portland last week:

This is a very easy float, but as with my previous easy floats down the Sandy, expect shallow water, rocks and a few scratches on the bottom of your boat and possibly your paddle. I don't expect that helmets will be necessary, but always strongly recommended, because you never know. I've heard that a bike helmet works just fine if that's all you have.

When I have gone on this float (tubing) in the past, there has been a relaxed, fun but not necessarily very sober or intelligent atmosphere. Alcohol is prohibited at Barton and Carver parks, but apparently not on the river. Lots of people float this section with conglomerations of rafts, tubes and pretty much anything that floats. On a Thursday in September it will probably not be very crazy or crowded though. I think there are parking fees at both parks.

We will meet at Carver to plan a shuttle, then head upstream to Barton County Park. I'm estimating being in the water by a little after 11am. I just learned to roll, finally! :-) I'll probably be practicing a bit here & there. I'd be happy to help anyone else who's interested.

My daughters will be back in school, so I'll even have a few extra kayaks, paddles & life jackets if you need to borrow one.

It's supposed to rain (I'm guessing on & off) Thursday with a chance of storms. Personally I don't mind that kind of weather this time of year, but please remember to dress accordingly.
