Cheap Thrills Hiking

The Hike

This is two short hikes to see 3 waterfalls.  The first trailhead is to Upper McCord Creek Falls and Elowah Falls.  It's around 2.8 miles and about 500 feet elevation gain for the first 2 falls.  We will then drive up the road 5 mi to the 2nd trailhead for Wahclella Falls.  This is another 2 miles of hiking and 400 feet of elevation gain.  The hike should take about 3 to 4 hours.  With driving time we'll return by 3pm, but hopefully 2pm.

Upper McCord Creek Falls Hike

Elowah Falls Hike

Wahclella Falls Hike

Take the 84 freeway and exit 35, just past Multnomah Falls.  Make a left off the exit and then a right on NE Frontage Rd to avoid getting back on the freeway.  The parking lot is at the end of the road just before the next 84 on ramp.

The 2nd trailhead is on the right after exiting the 84 at exit 40.  Parking for Wahclella Falls requires a Northwest Forest Pass but I've parked outside the lot when it is full.

We will meet at the Gateway Transit Center at the 84 and 205 freeways.  More specifically we will be between the park-and-ride garage and NE 99 at 9AM.  Carpools we be chosen and we'll leave for the gorge at 9:15AM.  Be early.

Please comment if you are able to drive.  If you are a rider, cash is a good bribe to drivers.  They are happy to drive the next time.  The suggestion is around 8 Dollars or 6 Euros.

Make sure you bring water, shoes built for rocks, a camera, and water.  Backpacks or Fanny Packs are great for this stuff.  You may also bring silent dogs or cats to carry your crap, but don't plan on them carpooling.

You are responsible for yourself and possibly the person next to you.

"Having fun" is also required.
