PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read this carefully before adding yourself to the meetup!
I'm trying out a new suggested meetup series here. You know when you are playing with a group of people and some of you start discussing one of those games you just assume everyone has played and someone at the table has never played it or (gasp!) never even heard of it? And then you are all "How can you NOT have played...?"
Thus the "What Do You Mean You've Never Played..." series.
I am recommending anyone in the group start a meetup in the series, not just me. Just add a game title at the end, set a date and place and lets teach these newbs the basics of gamer geekdom. If you want to host a game but don't want to do it at a local game shop and also can't host at your place, check with me. My place might be available - particularly if it will be on the same day I am already hosting one, since my upstairs game room will be available. It can seat up to a 5-player game comfortably.
Now the idea here is for players who have actually NEVER played the game to sign up, not just anyone who loves the game and wants play it again. Sign-up slots should be reserved for those people who haven't played. The host should know the game and be willing to teach others. It should be planned on it taking time and patience while everyone learns, and this ideally will be a nice way for newbs to learn the game in a more casual atmosphere without the vets harrumphing because they are having to wait for someone to finish their turn.
So, my first admission to the series: Arkham Horror. If you are at all interested in horror themed stuff or H. P. Lovecraft in particular (jeez, if you've never heard of him, look it up for elder god's sake!) then you really should try this game. Besides, it's pretty much a must-have-played game for any real boardgamer geek. It was one of the first co-operative games that really changed the market. It has spawned all kinds of similar themed games and knock-offs but remains (sort-of like Magic:the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons - Meetups anyone?) the reigning go-to game in that genre/game-style.
I am actually going to set 2 different dates. There seems to be enough people interested in trying it and I want to limit the number of total players to 6 (including myself) to (somewhat) shorten the playing time. If you are interested in joining the meetup plan for a minimum of 5 hours to play. Also please be on time and plan to stay for the whole game. I plan to use the basic set and maybe one of the smaller add-ons.
Lastly, plan to have eaten or bring lunch with you so we can get going right at 1:00 PM. Having to explain the rules multiple times because of stragglers will be discourteous to everyone. I have a lot of food options within close walking distance from my place. Given the length of Arkham Horror we will likely take a snack break midway, also.
all right, there you go! Let the ejeemikayshun begin!
