Friday Night Movie: The Turning Point

The UNITY Center offers film about community solutions
to climate change challenges

On Friday, October 5, at 7:00 pm, The UNITY Center in West Linn will present a positive and inspiring film about our transition to a low-carbon future entitled “The Turning Point: a Return to Community.” As the first in a series UNITY calls “The Shifting World,” the film proposes how we can turn the challenges of peak oil and climate change into an opportunity for a better world.

Created at Findhorn Ecovillage in Scotland, an internationally-known, multi-faith, spiritual community and ecovillage, this short film is intended to inspire and empower its viewers with a story of people succeeding in translating their dreams of living sustainably into reality and the role of community in doing so.

Featuring the members of Findhorn Ecovillage and other visionary leaders in the fields of human ecology and global transition, the film looks at community solutions that have evolved over the last 20 years at Findhorn and elsewhere and our potential to create a positive and sustainable future.

In addition to participants from Findhorn, the film features Richard Heinberg, author of Powerdown: Options and Actions for a Post-Carbon World; Rob Hopkins, co-founder of the Transitions Network; author and spiritual ecologist, Joana Macy; and Megan Quinn Bachman, Outreach Director of Community Solutions and co-producer of the film “The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil.”

A discussion of the terms and ideas presented will follow the 40-minute film which is offered on a donation basis. The UNITY Center is located at 20255 Willamette Drive, West Linn. Popcorn provided, $5 requested donation goes to future events.

I was pretty much aware of the issues presented and have read about Findhorn but it was still interesting to get a number of perspectives from knowledgeable people.
