Since you live in Long Beach, I thought you might be interested in the Long Beach/South Bay Section of the Wilderness Travel Course run by the Sierra Club. Course runs from Jan 20 to March 24, 2010, Wednesdays at 7:30 PM. There are also four weekend outings. It teaches navigation, rock scrambling, snow travel/camping and more. Cost includes bus transportation.
You will learn a lot and meet new hiking friends.

The feeding the homeless felt really good. Most the people we handed lunches to were very grateful. I plan on doing it every month, as long as my schedule permits. I think they said it is always the 3rd Sunday of the month,the next one is April 19th. Same day as the school rebuilding project unfortunately. I am hoping to go to Tijuana next time around. Sounds like it was quite an experience. Good to know you were able to arrange the caravan to pick you up on the way. See you around.

Sorry Alex, I just now saw your message in reply to mine about driving to the orphanage. I ended up doing the feeding the homeless that weekend instead. Did you end up going to Tijuana? How did it go?

Hi Alex! It's been a while.
I think we're all coming back around 10 or 11pm depending on the traffic at the border.
I'm not sure if I'm going yet... Waiting on my immigration attorney to get back to me. -
