Coke Ovens/Box Canyon

We will take our annual trip to the Coke Ovens.   Hopefully the trail won’t be graded flat.   We will enter through Box Canyon and try to exit across the Gila River as last year. Most have been to the ovens before but it is always an exciting trip for the ones who have never been.   Plan on all day.   As always, lawn chairs, camera and lunch.

State Trust Land use permit required.

Bente, we don't want a rainy day. If it is raining Box Canyon could be flooded. Just sayin'.

I see a waiting list has started for this run. For those who don't know, the waiting list is automated so if someone signed up for the run changes their RSVP to NO, the next on the waiting list is automatically added to the run.

So, in fairness to all members on this and future runs, if your plans change and you know you are not going on this run, please change your RSVP to NO so the waiting list will be utilized.

IMHO. No. The scratchy brush would be more a concern on a new Jeep.

In regards to this conversation between Steve and Dave, I RSVP'd for this run and I have a stock Jeep and am a beginner. Should I wait for an easier trail?

I that trail has changed ror the worst vechicles that are stock and low to the ground will have big problems. the trail is mostly a rock garden boulders to get over or if possible go around steps 12to 24 inchs to traverse the closer to the gound you are the more trouble you are going to have

I'm sure the box has been washed to bedrock. You ran from north to south, much tougher that south to north. I have been through there south to north in my Jeep Liberty under the same conditions. The Liberty lifted had less clearance that a stock wrangler. The reason we travel in a group is to tackle such obstacles as a group. If we have to stack rocks, we stack rocks. If we have to repair a washout we repair it

I appreciate your opinion Dave but it is exactly that. As is mine. We will stack, strap or winch to get everyone through who wants to go. It is suppose to be an adventure so we will make it one.

I would like to run the back way out in the next few weeks to check on the river and see if the Mesquite tunnel is filling in. I am off work for 2 weeks starting the 24th. I would prefer to have another vehicle with me. Any takers?
