To start off, I'd like to share some resources to get everyone on the same page.
First, I've written an article that hopefully can get us all in apples-to-apples discussions. I wrote it because you'll see some people talking about food storage or whatever, then the Mad Max crew comes in with 'you just need guns and ammo' kind of talk.
Fact is, it totally depends upon the reactions of your fellow citizens whether or not a major disaster turns into Mad Max or not. The article outlines 5 different types of disasters, their severity, and the (all important) human reaction to the disaster:
Second, there's the American Preppers Network:
The APN has periodic Roll Calls that you can chime in and meet others who might not be on meetup:
Third, there are some really good blogs out there...some are from survivors of SHTF scenarios and are not for the faint of heart, but are really educational:
"Ferfal" lived through the Argentinian currency collapse of 2001 - priceless info here: http://ferfal.blogspot.com
"Selco" lived through the Bosnian War and lived for a year in a city cut off and surrounded by the enemy force: http://shtfschool.com/
