Bob Howard comments about Congressman Murphy RE: [912PGHSouthHills] FW: [glennbeck-39] ACTION ALERT!! How they voted to Defund Obamacare

Congressman Murphy did not vote NO. The Congressman was not able to vote because as I understand it he had a family commitment that required him to be back home. Below is what the Congressman stated in his email the evening of the vote. From what I can tell his message is aligned with the message that Graves/Meadows/Cruz and Lee asked House members to convey to the public. It is the message we what people to get and understand --- “the government is funded and the problem is Reid / Senate and the President who will not pass normal appropriation bills and they are refusing to compromise with the peoples’ House of Representatives.”

As far as I know the Congressman has not disclosed the nature of his commitment therefore I will not continue the rumor that it was his daughter’s wedding. Remember that we need to be responsible and fair in our comments if we are to be respected by others. For those of us who are Christian remember to “do unto others what we would have them do unto us” and that includes respecting each other when we don’t know why one of us misses a meeting or a vote.

Respectively, Bob Howard

House Votes to Continue Government Operations

With the end of the fiscal year approaching on September 30, the House of Representatives today approved H.J.Res. 59, a measure to continue to fund all government operations through December 15, 2013. The appropriations measure, known in Congress as a “Continuing Resolution,” maintains government funding at current spending levels. This particular Continuing Resolution included a provision to withhold funding for implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

In his capacity as Chairman of the Oversight & Investigations Committee, Rep. Murphy has acted as the chief congressional investigator of the ACA, exposing key provisions of the healthcare law like eligibility verification are not ready; individual insurance premiums are set to rise by nearly 100 percent on average; and local SWPA employers are facing complex regulations and higher costs because of the law.

Murphy said taking up each appropriations bill individually through “regular order” would help to address Washington’s overspending, which has led to a $17 trillion national debt. Service on the debt now exceeds 6% of government spending, and more than 20% of the federal budget is paid for with debt borrowed mostly from China.

“The House has repeatedly worked to make government more efficient, strengthen important safety net programs, and cut spending where appropriate and ultimately work toward a balanced budget. A ‘continuing resolution’ is only necessary because the Senate has refused to take up regular appropriations legislation for the last seven years.”

Senate Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid and the White House have refused to allow any vote on appropriations bills, prompting frustrated Members of Congress to urge their Senate counterparts to stop the delay tactics and get to work on the important business of the nation.

“Without legislative activity in the Senate, we are just going around in circles,” said Murphy. “It’s time for the Senate to take action and deliberate on the vital issues of the American people.”

As all indications from the Senate are that the House-passed bill will not be acted on, Congressman Murphy will return to Washington next week to work on a solution that keeps the federal government operational, and enacts needed spending cuts and budget reforms.

Out of curiosity, did anyone bother to call and find out why Murphy was a no vote? Did he have a family situation or something? Would hate to see this be unjustified.
