I am a big fan of petanque. Played a bit growing up and watched a lot of great petanque matches in the south of France. I am partly of French descent and speak French. My grandfather was the one that got me into the game at an early age.
Yes and I enjoy the game.
Yes I have my own boules.
The first day I arrived with my Grandfather's beret and a few sets of Petanque Balls I realized how fortunate I was to be able to play a game I have enjoyed since my youth. I brought my wife, so that she too could discover a game that can be played by anyone and enjoyed by all. I have met a great bunch of people from Philadelphia who like me have found a game they have taken a liking to. This sport which history comes from many countries a very long time ago playing variations that have let to other versions with this one being the one I am most familiar thanks to family and it's culture. I think we have a potential of making Petanque something most Americans can really enjoy throughout their entire lives. Many different countries play petanque and enjoy the game. We can at least teach others to play the game and make new friends in the process.
Yes Ken, I will be there and I'm so happy to meet your mother !
See you on Sunday and have a good week,
Sorry, actually I am going to be very busy up to my vacation (July 24th).. So during this period, the only thing I can do is what I posted today for tomorrow meeting : bring extra sets of boules early (from 8:30- 9am) on Sunday mornings,(this time I have only 2, but I think I'll keep more than that for the two next weeks) and "be around" sometimes if it's needed. When the warm weather returns, I would definitely like to have more of an organized event like this. I’ve already checked with Friends of Clark Park (FCP) and gatherings are welcome there. No permit is needed unless the group size exceeds 50. BTW – there are also a couple of pétanque announcements on the FCP Facebook page.
As for this Sunday, TBD, since the weather is supposed to be cold, cloudy and windy, though I am open to it.
I have been keeping l’Alliance abreast of what’s happening with pétanque and they have been posting announcements about it on their Facebook page. As well, I think that there will be a blurb in their next quarterly newsletter. It does remind me that it would be good to also have a printed announcement tacked onto their bulletin board. As well, I’d like to make little business card things with the name of the group and the Meetup URL, to give to interested passers-by.
Hi Ken. Welcome to the group. It's a great way to get started painting directly from nature. Looking forward to seeing you.
Definitely still on for Saturday. No problem per Sunday.
Hi Ken, Mamary, Loi and I are also going to play Sunday @ 11a, 40th & Walnut. We're looking for a 4th, in case you are interested ?
Thanks for coming out yesterday, despite the frigid temps. Hope you guys can make it next weekend too.
