I am excited to announce that Peter Zaitsev, CEO of Percona and co-author of High Performance MySQL, will be making a trip to Charlotte in January 2011 and will be stopping to speak to the PHP User Group about Scaling with MySQL. I have also opened this meetup to other Charlotte groups which likely use MySQL as a primary DBMS, though I ask them to please RSVP to the Queen City PHP meetup for head counting purposes. Well organized and great turnout. I had some great takeaways from the presentation.

It was a great meetup, as always. It was nice to see the familiar faces, along with new people.

A reminder at the beginning of the meetup that there was going to be a giveaway at the end for everybody who checked in would have been nice.

It was okay... I appreciated some of the topics covered... However, most of what he was discussing seemed to be too "high end" for what I generally deal with. I guess I was expecting more of a presentation on optimizing run-of-the-mill MySQL applications. But, glad I went regardless!

Great talk! Peter's without a doubt a very bright guy, and I think he offered us a lot of insight. I particularly appreciate his understanding that different solutions apply to different situations.
