PHP Niagara Kick-off Meetup

This initial meetup will be rather informal; no Talks, no Demonstrations, just a lot of Hellos and Handshaking, and a little bit of planning.  I'd like to discuss things like organization (having a co-organizer, treasurer, etc), more suitable locations for meeting, and what topics people would like to see covered/what they'd like to talk about.

So pull up a chair, grab a coffee, and feel free to brag about whatever you've been working on.

NOTE: Because this is a fairly small venue, I've put a limit of 20 Attendees on this Meetup.  If we seriously look like we'll exceed that, I'll look into changing the venue.

Thanks to everyone who came out last night! We're off to a great start! I'll post a tentative date for the next Meetup soon.

Congratulations and welcome to the community. I'll be announcing your upcoming meetup at the next WNYRuby/BuffaloPHP joint meetup in Amherst tomorrow night. Several members of our group (myself included) are big on contributing to other area groups, and working on cross-group events; I hope we can do the same for you.

Thanks for the kind words and the shout-out. I've already been talking about doing some future collaboration with the Guelph PHP UG, I'd be thrilled to work with the Buffalo PHP group as well. I actually met one of your members at Codeworks 2012 (I'm terrible with names, it could very well have been you) and I think that's what put the idea of forming this UG in my head - TrueNorthPHP just cemented it :)

It definitely wasn't me ;). I tend to be more active on the Ruby side, so I tend to lean towards those conferences. In Buffalo PHP and Ruby meet the same night (usually 2nd Tuesday) so I always have to choose. Its great to have another group nearby which might provide different options.

Just confirmed the reservation with Coffee Culture, we're good to go. Looking forward to meeting everyone on Dec 6th!

Maybe Mahtay would work better? I can offer a boardroom, but we'd lose the meetup experience. Based on experience, only 20-40% of people may actually show up.

I'll consider Mahtay, but I seem to recall them usually having live music on Thursdays which is why I avoided it. I'll call CC tomorrow and check on the reservation possibility, and follow up with Mahtay if CC is out.

Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternate venue? I have a feeling Coffee Culture will be too small now. Any workplaces with a conference room they can offer perhaps?

Just a note that the Business in Niagara Meetup group is also meeting from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on December 6th (location yet to be determined) so I could be a bit late for the 7:00 p.m. start of our inaugral meeting. They have over 100 members so others might be late as well.

Thanks for the heads up - what day of the month we actually want to meet going forward is something I wanted to discuss at this first meeting. I want to avoid conflicts with the Buffalo and Guelph PHP groups as well.

Since this is growing faster than I expected, I went ahead and called Coffee Culture to make sure they'd be able to handle ~15 people meeting up there. The manager is calling me back tomorrow to discuss a reservation for us :)
