The Talent War for Project Managers?

THiS MEET UP WILL BE 6:00 for a 6:30pm Start...Level 1 at Fishburners

The Commodification of Skills – Is the “War on Talent” just an inability to see the wood for the trees?

Many of us in the project management and ICT industry continue to be dismayed and occasionally a little incredulous when we hear the continual mantra repeated about the so called ‘skills shortage’, the so called “war on talent”, when so many  extremely experienced project and program managers with many successful projects behind them struggle to get work.  Why is this and why are so many people continually overlooked by recruiters while at the same time high profile projects continue to fail on their objectives?...

Very good discussion, great points to think about and how to politely but firmly respond to challenges to 'missing' qualifications.

Thank you for the session I found it very interesting. There were some insightful suggestions such as treating the recruiters like a stakeholder, where you push to understand exactly what the requirements/issues they have are and then appropriately frame your project experience and training (the tool kit) to enable the recruiter to sell your benefit to the project hiring manager.

I really appreciated the way Susanne gave us a way to think about how recruiters/employers may be thinking and in knowing that may help job seekers answer questions differently, and be more aware. As well I appreciated that things we do in our natural life are also "PM" things - issue management, stakeholder management, etc - and that again drawing those in to our worklife can be useful - esp in a new situation.

    Thanks to all who attended!

A timely topic. I am just launching my startup, which allows Project managers to acquire teams of expertise - essentially front-loading the benefits of a proven team into a project (or create visibility of your own team to move as a group). I'm hoping to get feedback on our concept and create some evangelists.
