Please join us for a Leafleting Workshop at Broward College (formerly BCC) in Davie, on Saturday, November 7 from 10:00am until 12:00pm followed by lunch at Toss Up Salads (7750 Nova Drive, Davie, FL[masked]). Linda Bower, from Vegan Outreach's Adopt A College program will be demonstrating her techniques and will answer any questions from our group. Linda has been leafleting since January 2004 and has distributed over 27,000 Vegan Outreach booklets. She has leafleted for FIU, FAU, Broward College, Miami Dade College, Barry University, Nova, etc. "Why Leaflet? As a movement, we don’t have advertising budgets comparable to those of the industries that abuse animals. So, we have to find cheap ways to get the animals’ message to the public. Most of us became vegan after personal interactions with someone who was already vegan, and we can create similar circumstances that will help bring others along as well. Likewise, handing out literature and talking with people one-on-one is an inexpensive and highly effective way to increase people’s interest in veganism, and having information for them makes your job that much easier. While we may not have funds at our disposal like the meat, egg, and dairy industries do, we have a significant asset: people whose motive is compassion, rather than profit. Indeed, there are hundreds of thousands of compassionate people in the country dedicated to bringing about animal liberation. Many of us are willing to spend at least a few hours each week on animal advocacy in the streets, because we know there is no more effective way of reaching people than by showing them a friendly, vegan face."
Even if you have leafleted before, please come out and help because after some Q&A and instruction, we will be breaking into smaller groups and can use experienced leafleters to help. Boyd and I (Jennifer) had the pleasure of leafleting with Linda at FIU and we had never leafleted before and felt a bit nervous about how people would respond and what questions they might ask. After watching Linda in action and then jumping in to help, we found that the booklet recipients were happy to receive the material and most often just said "thank you".
Please RSVP as soon as possible so we know how many booklets to order! Thanks!
