San Gorgonio hike via South Fork trail

This activity is a training hike leading up to Cactus to Clouds, October 19th.  You do not have to participate in Cactus to Clouds to sign up for this hike.

Mt. San Gorgonio, also known as "Old Greyback", is the highest mountain in Southern California. It is a very popular mountain with several trails that lead to the summit. From South Folk trail up Dollar Lake Saddle onto the Peak the distance is 11.3 miles, elevation gain 4,540 ft.

This trail approaches San Gorgonio Mountain from the western ridgeline. It starts out at an easy grade and gets steeper after South fork meadows, and gets even steeper with altitude effect after Dollar Lake Saddle.

As far as the scenary, the 58,700-acre San Gorgonio Wilderness lies in the summit region of the San Gorgonio Mountain Range. The area is characterized by well timbered northern slopes, small meadows and two small lakes. Vegetation within the area varies from desert to alpine flora and fauna.

And congratulations to Lisa, Karen, Kevin and Andy for making it to the top of San G for the first time! Thanks for sharing this special moment with me. You guys made it such a memorable experience! Hi Karen, if you like to bring a water filter that's fine. There will a water source at miles 3.8 and 17.6 to refill any containers you bring.
