Afterwards, we'll meet at the Cougar Crest Trailhead (Adventure Pass will be required) to hike up Bertha Peak where we'll have lunch at the top.  So pack a lunch to bring to the top.

    Distance: ~6miles round trip

    Elevation gain: ~1400ft

Directions to TrailheadTravel along Highway 18 through the town of Big Bear Lake until reaching the Stanfield Cutoff-turn north, and continue to the north shore of the lake and the junction between the Stanfield Cutoff and Highway 38. Turn left on Hwy 38 and travel 1.3 miles (approximately .6 miles past the Big Bear Ranger Station) to the Cougar Crest Trailhead, situated on the right side of the road. To reach the Cougar Crest Trailhead from the city of Fawnskin, travel approximately 2.4 miles east along Highway 38-the trailhead will be on the left. A Forest Service Adventure Pass is required to park here, and can be obtained at the Discovery Center or at any Ranger Station. (Lat:[masked] Lon:[masked])

What to bring (more so for the hike): at least 2 liters of water, lunch, snacks, sunscreen, camera, hiking poles if you use them.

You can also refer to the following link regarding the 10 essentials to have when hiking:

Also, what you bring from this list of essentials will depend on the individual's preferences, knowledge, experience, climate and locations may/will require substitutions.

Ok everyone, I have to move the SUP/Bertha Peak hike date. Turns out the Captain John's will be busy with a big event, August 10th. Let me know if Sunday, September 1st works for you. Also, I need to know how many of you plan to paddleboard versus kayaking. They only have 12 paddleboards, but plenty of kayaks. Also, it's first come first serve. No reservations will be taken.

Robert, I just bought my discount. Are you going to make a group reservation for that day and time, or do we reserve for ourselves?
