Whitewater - Canyon View Loop Trail (K-9 Friendly) & Picnic

Canyon View Loop Trail 3.5 mile loop (Moderate) This loop trail follows a section of the Pacific Crest Trail south, ascending 500’ to the top of a winding ridge, with excellent views of Whitewater Canyon and the north face of Mount San Jacinto. In the spring, this loop is the best place to see fields of Poppies, Lupines, Coreopsis, and many other wildflowers. Leaving the ranger station, head northwest along the marked trail between two palm trees, cross the Whitewater River, and reach the Pacific Crest Trail in one‐half mile. Turn left and wind up switchbacks for roughly three – quarters of a mile. At the top of the switchbacks, look for the trail post and turn left for the Canyon View Loop. Follow the trail along the top of the ridge, stopping at several overlooks to enjoy views of the preserve and Whitewater Canyon. Continue south along the ridge as it descends via switchbacks to Whitewater Canyon Road. Walk up the road several hundred yards to the trail marker just beyond the river by a preserve sign. Follow the rock‐lined trail from there back to the ranger station.

this was my very first time with a group of hikers and it started with a friendly, respectful and layed back gathering of group members at the entrance of the trail for a roll call by our organizer stephan who did an outstanding job leading the group, A true professional to say the least, thanks to all who were there and glad I made it to the meet" time well spent!

I see carpooling is probably a good idea. I'll try to bring my wife's minivan, or else we're stuck with my Prius. That's at least one full-sized seat open, though. :)

Hi Stephan - Charlie Marquardt here from the Wildlands Conservancy. I was talking to the Whitewater Preserve manager Jack Thompson today & mentioned you had a large group heading out there Saturday. (I'd join you but I have to work). Anyway, it would probably be a good idea to talk to them about parking - maybe doing a shuttle - as there are limited spaces in the lots, particularly on a fall weekend. The phone number is 760.325.7222. Hope everybody has a great hike! Should be an excellent weekend for a canyon walk and a picnic - and hopefully you'll see a few bighorns up on the cliffs.

    Yours,
    Charlie

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
