San Gorgonio Peak and camping trip

Let's hike up to Dry Lake from the South Fork trail head to set-up camp and continue up to San Gorgonio peak afterwards. After bagging the peak, we'll head back to Dry Lake for a nice dinner at the campsite and share stories of various adventures we have been part of.

What to bring:

-Bear canister or bear bagging.

-A shovel or hand trowel in possession for use in burying human waste during overnight camping or in cleaning sites for stove fires.

-Food and water for over-night stay.

-Sleeping bag, tent, lighting, and warm cloths.

More information to be posted.

Fun trip! Didn't realize there was more than one campsite around the Dry Lake area and glad we got the quieter side. Also, beautiful sights and good workout lugging our gear up to camp. And despite not making it to the top of San G which was a safe choice, everyone will have a chance June 14th from the Vivian creek side. This will be a day hike 18 miles round trip. Thanks to everyone for making this a fun trip. Congratulations to Joe and Charles on your first backpacking trip. I hope you found it an enjoyable first time out. Baldy next.....LOL! See everyone at the next activity and have a great start to your week!

Had a great time! Too bad we couldn't make it to the top but better safe than sorry. What a great bunch of people to spend the weekend with in the great outdoors. Thanks for organizing Robert. You're the best!

If you are not sure how to get to South Fork trail head, we plan to meet at the Mill Creek Ranger station at 7a.. From there, we can follow each other up or carpool. I have room for two more people. We should be at the trail head around 7:45a-8a.. Also, talked Ranger today and they say the water source is not there because of the dry winter. Therefore, we will need to fill up with water at South Fork Meadows. This will be about 2.0 miles from the campsite which is different from I originally told you. I now have a mileage map showing accurate distances of the SGW. As far as traction, Ranger recommends if we are going up the north side of San G, which we will, we have something to keep our footing in case we encounter snow/ice. This would include pointed hiking poles, shoe spikes that dig into the ground, etc.... See everyone Saturday!

Shaping up to be a beautiful weekend. Blue skies and highs in the low 70s and lows in the 40. Those going up to the peak, be sure to bring micro spikes in case there is residual snow and ice. Looking forward to Saturday. Have a good week!

Jordan, I have a pair of yak traks, just wanted to know if I needed the micro spikes in case the conditions were extreme, but it seems like it won't be.

Robert, I have evaluated my skill level and unfortunately I do not believe I am at the level necessary for this hike. I look forward to other opportunities to begin my backpacking adventures since I have purchased most of the gear. My mind is willing but my body is not able yet

Joe, if you still have the +1 that wants to go, let me know and I'll add them. Lora T dropped out. If not, Bruce moves on from the Waitlist. And if Bruce declines, then Frank's father.

Hi Stephan and Robert. My Father says he paid the Pay Pal and wants to join the Waiting list. Can he add on? He is a very strong hiker.

Unfortunately Joe, there's no room. I crossed posted with the Temecula meetup group and they filled the remaining spots. I recommend ur +1 wait to see if someone drops.

You will be able to bring your dog. However, looks like you will need to have her on a leash. But that's up to you.
