Summary of hike: Red Rock Canyon is a narrow canyon surrounded by dramatic 100-foot red sandstone cliffs. The wind and water-carved formations cast a terra cotta tint from oxidized iron in the rock. Shellfish and marine fossils can be seen in the fluted chiseled sedimentary To help preserve the fragile serrated outcroppings, Red Rock Canyon is open to hikers only. This hike follows stream-fed Borrego Canyon under a dense canopy of twisted live towering sycamores, The leads to the weathered rock sculptures in the upper reaches of Borrego Canyon. Watch for deers that live there freely.
Hiking Distance: 5 miles round trip
Elevation: 600 Ft.
Hiking Time: 2.5 Miles
Directions: Exit North on Alton Parkway from 241 Toll Road, Right on Portola Parkway and turn left on Market Place. You will see Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, where you can park your car and pay $3 fee. However, there's Ralph's parking lot where you can park your for free.
