Professionally Speaking Singles Toastmasters Meetup

Who We Are: Professionally Speaking Singles Toastmasters (PSST) is the only Toastmasters club exclusively for single Houstonians! We're professionals united by a common goal: enriching our professional and personal lives with strong communication skills! As an upwardly mobile single, you need to think quickly on your feet, speak concisely and persuasively, and practice leadership skills which will last a lifetime.

When We Meet: Make us your little oasis on Monday nights! Visit us any Monday around 6:45pm at 1900 Bering Drive (Emerson Unitarian Church,) Houston TX 77057. Our meeting officially starts at 7:00pm and ends around 8:30pm. Learn fundamental speaking and leadership skills you can use in everyday life.

Social Events: After each meeting, members and guests go out for food, drinks, and conversation. We also get together weeknights and weekends for social events such as dinners, parties, movies, and dancing.

What It Costs to Join PSST: There's no cost to visit. New Member Dues are pro-rated depending on when you join. You will get more information when you visit.

How Soon Can I Join? To make sure our club is the right fit for you, attend at least 2 meetings. After the 2nd meeting, give the VP Membership your application and check. We'll vote on your application at the next meeting. (Note: Being a member of this Meetup does not make you a member of PSST.)

I was wondering how much of this theory behind the rationale of practice-making-perfect, has ever been seriously questioned. Don't we realize that how effectively someone's going to deliver a talk to a group has more to do with the speaker's emotional state, physical state of health and how much sleep he or she has recently been (or not) getting, how passionately he or she believes in the subject being dealt with, and a ton of other factors MORE IMPORTANTLY than his or her "skill level" attained to date, which, by the way, is more a matter of cultural adjustment than anything else?? Someone wants to thoughtfully teach about a topic the hearer has no clue about, and it'll definitely negatively impact what the hearer thinks about the speaker's skill level in communicating! I cringed inwardly watching you all beat each other up all evening long. Well; whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
