New Dam Paddle Day at Canyon Lake

Arrive at Canyon Lake Acacia picnic area at 7:45 am to get your gear ready for a  8:00 am shove off time.  You need a Tonto Pass.  You can pick one up at most convenient stores, gas stations or any place that displays  the Tonto Pass Sold Here sign.

Of course for a few dollars more, you can buy tonto pass online
http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tonto/home/?cid=stelprdb5274504

Click on the map above for directions.

This event is not for beginners, you must be in good physical condition to do this

I am going to paddle back to Horse Shoe Mesa Dam which is about 9 miles, 18 miles round trip.  It will take about three hours to paddle back to the dam,  a 6 hour round trip.  (depending on wind).  This is really a great trip to do, the canyon up stream is beautiful.  Bring a sack lunch and plenty of water.  The only rest stop is at  Beer Can Point and one sand bar near the dam.  There is a good chance of seeing sheep along the canyon walls.

Woow, What a nice trip. No Sun, No Wind, Just Fun. It was gorgeous up the lake. The canyon walls were beautiful. there are some neat coves to explore and a nice sand bar to rest at. If you have not made this trip, you need to do it. According to my GPS said it was 7.58 miles from Acacia to the buoys. It took us three hours to paddle back to the buoys with one stop at Beer Can Point with a easy paddle.
I am going to go back up there Sunday morning. If it rains Saturday, there could be waterfalls and the canyon walls will be beautiful. A view I don't want to miss.

will bring out the true colors of the rocks and bring out the green in the plants and the likens, Let me know if you are interested in going with me. Hope the sun comes out to help brighten the colors. I am going to bring my spray skirt and not going to bring Arch with me. It is not many times I have seen this

Thanks for trying. I just got back from a Pleasant Paddle and checked out the Sports Expo. Not sore at all. Tuesday will be great for a paddle to the dam. See you in the morning.

I'm ok with moving the paddle to later in the week. I did a paddle on Lake Pleasant yesterday and have another one there tomorrow. An extra day or two of rest couldn't hurt.

Am so very sorry that I have to cancel but I have a friend in from my home town and we have been going non stop since she arrived, kayaking, tennis, long bike rides and dancing, and she leaves Monday night, and I am going to be exhausted, so there is no way I can get up early Tuesday to go kayaking. Have a great time, and I hope to do the next damn to damn.
