Great to see many paddlers there. Sorry, I missed seeing many others I wanted to spend more time with. Camping on Windsor Beach close to the water was most excellent. Super facilites and paddlefest in Lake Havasu. There were over 200 participants from paddling clubs all over the southwest.

I would like to paddle from Laughlin to Paddle fest. I need to procure a return ride, with 16.5 ft boat.

    November 5, 2012

  • william

I called Bob (Nelson)[masked]-5597. Camping included with "$35 registration" is "festival style" in-on-or-around lot 4. Vehicles park in lot 4. (Not State Park Camping-Tent-RV FEE Sites - ADDITIONAL COST FOR FEE SITES) There is plenty of grass for "Tents". Entry to this event is Lot 4. Day and Over-Night parking/camping ~ Lot 4 (south parking lot). Showers are located in another location in the park. Bob said that admission is free - Free to walk around and learn about kayaks and there will be "demos" for people to try out. Trying out different boats is a good idea ~ a comfortable boat is the "Investment" you that you will look forward to using. You can ask other people in boats, to try them out. No glass containers. Alcohol is allowed. Campfires in the planning stage; still issues with where and wood to burn.

    November 3, 2012

    • JRiv

Yes, Bob is the organizer of LH PaddleFest and the owner of Southwest Kayaks. Dry camping in special limit lot 4 next to the London Bridge Channel is at the outer perimeter of the lot 4 parking lot and is first come, first claim your campsite. Many of us are camping about 250 yards away just to the north along the shoreline in the Lake Havasu State Park campground which is reserved campsite with restrooms, showers. From there it's a short walk or paddle over to the PaddleFest event.

Topock Gorge, I was reviewing Helens website and found that they want a payment for the shuttle 2 weeks in Advance. If that is true we need to move. I will be happy to charge the the shuttle if I get checks from all that are interested in doing the Gorge. I will be attending the Island breakfast at Lake Pleasant on Saturday and will take your money then. If you want to send it via US Mail You can send it to:
    Anthony D. Montoya
    17134 W Red Cliff Dr
    Surprise, AZ. 85387

I also need to know what day we will be going. I am partial to Monday.
If we do Monday we need to make the deposit by the 5th. I also suggest you take a look at https://secure.adventuresports.com/kayak/desert-river/secure/reserv.htm Note Reservations. I suspect that we can have the forms ready on the pickup day.

Topock Gorge Helens Reply Part 2 Dave

If you want to be picked up at Windsor Beach State Park the trip becomes a 20 plus mile trip - and we can pick up at both if that is what you want- just let us know. We run 15 passenger vans and have a minimum number for a run of 4 people ( we are 65 miles to the north and that is the number we need to pay for the gas and driver costs.Shuttle cost is $25 a person - If you have 6 or more we ca ndrop that to $20 a person. We can be there at 11 or noon if you want to do it on Sunday afternoon and evening ( sunset in the gorge is really nice - we do moonlights in here in the spring and love watching the shadows play on the clifts and then the dark coming down - or we can do it on Sunday morning for you - your call. Right now I don't have anything on the calandar for either day that we can not handle and do your trip as well. Please call me with any additional questions. Helen

    October 27, 2012

  • Dave

    Topock Gorge. Helens Reply, Dave
The trip takes a minimum of 5 hours to do- It is 17 plus miles of very slowly moving water with lots of side wetlands to explore. We say 17 plus miles because if you go from side to side to look at neat stuff you do go further. From where Paddlefest is the take out parking lot is only a few miles away. We can meet you at that parking lot, take your boats and gear on our trailers and drive you the 30 minutes up to Topock Marina and get you launched and then you can come back to your cars. See additional post.

  • Spence S.

Kathy and I are interested in paddling Topock Gorge, but do not know if this is a Sunday or a Monday thing. We can do either one, if others are interested, assuming Helen will run the shuttle.

Check out the Lake Havasu state park links for reserving a campsite if you choose to go that route.
There is also Free dry camping with fewer amenities at the Paddle Fest Special Event area. See the links and phone # for Lake Havasu PaddleFest and Southwest kayaks phone #, call them for details. John

      October 24, 2012

    • JRiv

It's first come, first served on the free camping at the PaddleFest special event site, I'm not sure how much room they have, call Southwest Kayaks in Lake Havasu City. I decided to reserve a campsite in the adjacent (1/4 mile away) Lake Havasu State Park campground, Windsor Beach which has tables, reserved site space, beach, showers, restrooms. Many people I know in this group and others have reserved campsite space as well

      October 25, 2012

  • JRiv

It looks like there's some interest (3 people) in a Topock Gorge trip going downriver. Due to my limited time in Lake Havasu City and the fact I'm visiting some friends I know in LHC on Friday and participating in a few Paddle Fest events on Saturday, I will not have time myself for a Topock Gorge trip. I'll probably paddle the Lower section of Topock Gorge and area north of the campground on a Sunday morning paddle.

I'd recommend Helen Howard's company Desert River Outfitters for a shuttle for Topock Gorge.
Minimum number of people to arrange a shuttle with Desert River Outfitters is 4 people.

    October 17, 2012

    • JRiv

Probably the best plan for simplified logistics would be for the shuttle van and trailer to meet people at Lake Havasu State Park campground and then take them to one of the put in (launch) area's near the I-40 bridge. For the Topock Gorge shuttle and possible kayak rentals:From Helen, "kayak rental is $55 and shuttle is $25 a person rental price includes the shuttle in it". Also there's a 4 person minimum for the shuttle for Desert River Outfitters.

    • JRiv

For those planning on a Topock Gorge paddle, you can post planning here or if you'd like one of organizers to post an event, just let us know.

Hey Luke, sounds interesting. Not real familiar of that area but I am always looking for paddle and camping opportunities "outside the box". What date(s) are you thinking?

    October 17, 2012

  • luke e.

Looking to do topcock gorge area.
I'm also interested in checking out the lake north up the river.
Anyone for maybe a Sunday trip into Monday am to Arizona hot springs / emerald cave- thinking of using Willow Beach as drop-in and go upriver to hot springs then paddle back down river Monday .

I live in lake havasu city and am an avid paddle boarder. I just returned from the Battle of the Paddle at Dana Point where I participated in the 4 mile open division race. The race will be entered into the Guiniss Book of World Records for the record number of racers participating in the race (more than 400). It was wild. I will be at the LHC event and would be interested in a topoc paddle too. I have three boards and would be willing to share them with two people. It will be a fun weekend!

I'd recommend camping at the State Park, Windsor beach campground, however there is also other camping along the shoreline at Crazy Horse campground near the PaddleFest event by water, but since Crazy Horse is on the island, the road distance is quite a bit further. For those interested, besides the PaddleFest events, some of us are thinking of paddling the upper end of Lake Havasu (north) into the Havasu Wildlife Refuge and the lower end of Topock Gorge from the Windsor beach campground area.
Another popular kayak paddle is to paddle around the island and through the London Bridge channel.
Open to suggestions, activities, including those in the evening in camp. John

This is 20 mile paddle down river not up, correct? Have not been in this section. Helens rates are great as always... I would be in if we can get a couple of more folks interested...

      August 9, 2012

    • JRiv

A little closer to the event, I'll gage the interest for a Topock Gorge trip going downriver. I there's enough interest I'll arrange a shuttle with Desert River Outfitters. If not, may paddle from the Lake Havasu State Park to the lower end of Topock Gorge and back instead. Lots of fishing opportunties at Lake Havasu too.
