Start the New Year with a NO PADDLE... Planning Meeting and Dutch Oven Potluck!!

Paddle cancelled due to cold and rainy weather. Planning meeting to start at 2:00.

Let's start out the new year with a 3-4 hour paddle on beautiful Saguaro Lake.  Leaving from Butcher Jones beach, we can explore the sites around the lake and work up an appetite. Our target is to look at Bagley Flat Campground for turn around point.  From Butcher Jones Beach to Bagley Flat is approximately 4.5 miles one way. Where we will stop, have a snack and a nature break.

To start the New Year 2013 out with adventures in mind;  we will reconvene at the LaShier's house (map will be given out at the paddle) for an appetizer/planning meeting.  While we gather to discuss future awesome events the dutch ovens will be cooking up tasty dinner entrees.

In your comments, let us know what you plan to bring...appetizers and/or dutch oven entree, and/or potluck dish.

Hope to see you all there!!

REVISED ITINERARY! Due to the forecast for rain that date, Peggy, Mory, and I have omitted the paddle portion of the day. (Cold and rain---not a pretty picture.) Instead, this is now a Planning/Potluck meetup.
Meet at the LaShier house at 2 pm for the planning portion of the event. (Address to be provided later) We can fire up the dutch ovens and have them preparing our feast while we make plans for paddling in the new year. Potluck dinner will proceed around 4 pm.

Let us know what item you will be bringing----I am bringing a chocolate dessert called La Bete Noir (the Black Beast).

Keep us updated as to your intention to attend--hope to see you all on Tuesday!

I'll bring cold beer to share and I'll be making green chile cornbread in the dutch oven. Looks like a good weekend for enjoying a fire with friends, rotating the charcoal on the DO :). Weather wise the rain will probably happen before Tuesday afternoon, so perhaps a short walk or hike nearby would be a possibility even if it's in the neighborhood.

Sorry, will not be able to meet you guys for the New Years paddle.
We live in Thousand Oaks, CA over 7 hours away from Phoenix.

You are all great to paddle, camp and hangout with. We are going to
Catalina State Park at about xmas through New Years with mountain
bikes. Tucson is very nice in winter.

I am installing 2 screw top 6" hatches in my Cobra fish & dive sit
on kayak. Maybe can send images from Pacific ocean in
Oxnard harbor. I have paddled out over 1 mile from the Santa
Barbara harbor mouth into the Pacific. It is very smooth due to
the shelter of the islands only about 12 miles off shore.

Once away from the shore there are no rough surf, only swell. The
swell can be 5 feet from bottom to top. But, kayaks just go up and
    down with no huge problems.

    Keep on paddling,
    Bob
