The Art Forger by Barbara Shapiro

The book for December Meetup is The Art Forger by Barbara Shapiro.  Here is a description of the book:

The Art Forger

On March 18, 1990, thirteen works of art today worth over $500 million were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. It remains the largest unsolved art heist in history, and Claire Roth, a struggling young artist, is about to discover that there’s more to this crime than meets the eye.

Making a living reproducing famous artworks for a popular online retailer and desperate to improve her situation, Claire is lured into a Faustian bargain with Aiden Markel, a powerful gallery owner. She agrees to forge a painting—a Degas masterpiece stolen from the Gardner Museum—in exchange for a one-woman show in his renowned gallery. But when that very same long-missing Degas painting is delivered to Claire’s studio, she begins to suspect that it may itself be a forgery.

Her desperate search for the truth leads Claire into a labyrinth of deceit where secrets hidden since the late nineteenth century may be the only evidence that can now save her life.

I'm behind in studying. So I'm going to let my spot go. The book has been pretty good so far when I've been able to read it!

So sorry the painting is a no-go; was really looking forward to it. Do we have a dinner location yet? Heard a few suggestions. What about Iaverone's on Humphrey? They have a room they reserve for 20 or more.

Count me in for Painting with a Twist. Yes, let's pay ahead of time like we did for the murder mystery dinner.

I'm in for Painting with a Twist at 2PM on 12/7. I think we should require the $45 payment at the November meeting, so no one is left holding the bag. Will we be painting one the the Masters reproductions? There are quite a few to choose from.

We'll need a separate plan for those that can't attend the November meeting or for people that have gift cards.

I'm all for painting with a twist too. I won't be at the November meeting, but count me in for December and painting, too.

I am too; however, the PWAT requires direction nearly the entire time so a book discussion at the same time would be difficult.

  • Linda L.

Jennifer's idea of meeting @ Painting with a Twist sounds great. If we have enough sign up (I think it's 10), we can choose the painting. Perhaps we could have a poll to select our favorite. They offer many reproductions of famous artists. This is a fun, stress-free experience with an instructor who takes you step-by-step.
