I moved here a few months ago and one of the things I miss the most about my hometown is the casual fiction women's book club I was a part of. We rotated homes and met once a month to discuss the hostess' choice of the month.
I'd like to start a similiar, casual group for women in the West suburbs of Chicagoland. Once we get up to 12+ members, you'll only need to host once a year or so.
The genre is open but it would be nice to focus on books that can drive a lively group discussion. Anything goes - including best sellers, chick lit, Pulitzer prize winners, new fiction, etc. Please don't feel like you have to be a literary head to join this group! This is meant to be a fun group for women to get together, share their thoughts on a book, and chit chat.
Going forward, meetings will be on the second Sunday afternoon of every month. If you have any suggestions on what our first book should be, let me know!
Books we've read so far:
May 2009 - "American Wife" by Curtis Sittenfeld

July 2009 - "Geography of Bliss" by Eric Weiner
August 2009 - "Shanghai Girls" by Lisa See
September 2009 - "Undress me at the Temple of Heaven" by Susan Jane Gilman
October 2009 - "The House at Riverton" by Kate Morton
