This group is for everyone who is interested in creative expression through painting .

There are regular monthly beginners workshops held at my comfortable studio in South Perth (two mins from Perth Zoo) which are perfect  for anyone starting from scratch who would like to simply have a positive painting experience; or those who have some skills wishing to build confidence/creativity in either acrylics or water based oil paints through our weekly mixed ability class.

WEEKLY mixed ability classes are held on Saturday afternoons 2-4pm and follow the school term.

The class is perfect for both beginners and more experienced alike.  We require three paid up (whole term) students for the class to run and others can join us at any time. Everyone is working on something different and most people are in the 'beginners' category though advanced students are also present.

There are significant discounts for students who pay for the whole term up front (a saving of around $50 per term) or you can elect to pay as you go.  Those who pay up front reserve their favourite easel and can leave their paints/brushes in the studio - so no need to cart equipment back and forth each week.

Students can opt to provide their own paints/materials or use mine for a little more cost to allow time to build their own paint set.

MONTHLY beginners classes designed to teach you how to use a variety of mediums as well as  basic skills in drawing and painting are offered on a Sunday morning 10.00am -12.30pm  each month.

A minimum of 4 students are needed for the monthly workshop to run and everyone is learning to paint the same picture - we work through the steps together as a group.

If you enjoy the experience you can then join our weekly class on Sat 2-4 where everyone is working on something different....  your favourite person, place or thing or  perhaps one of the 100s of famous paintings prints on offer in my studio collection.

Costs cover site fees, tuition and materials. For some classes you will need to pay online to secure your spot (i.e. weekly class if electing to pay at the discount rate) ...  others simply pay on the day as per the event instructions.

Perhaps you enjoy painting and prefer to do this in a social setting, but don't need a lesson?  If that sounds like what you're interest in, then why not come along to the week class as an overflow painter.

There are 5 overflow spots (simply meaning you're in the class but not there for a lesson) for people who simply want to use the facilities and paint with others.

Your $20 fee covers everything you need for the two hours to paint in the comfortable studio setting in the midst of a happy little group... utilities, tea coffee etc, and use of the easel.

We have 5 spots for overflow painters.  This could be the motivation you need to work regularly on your craft.

Painting Field Trips to locations around Perth

From time to time our members go out together as a group for painting field trips around Perth.  I don't host these these plein air field trips (painting out on location) and the sessions are purely social events held by members for members ...  a lovely get together ... and there is no teaching involved.

The field trip organiser (which might be you) kindly takes responsibility for welcoming everyone to the location (eg the South Perth foreshore or Kings Park) and for making sure everyone gets settled and feels comfortable to paint for a couple of hours.

The best locations are those with a beautiful view, public toilets, cafes nearby, and ample parking (eg Crawley Bay etc). If you would like to volunteer to host a field trip Ill upload your event  to our site and assist with notifying members.

From time to time Ill also try to join you but most of my time this year will be spent on   teaching classes in painting or ceramics so our members feel confident with basic skills in painting .

Please send me message if you would like to host a field trip and Ill assist in uploading your event.

FREE EVENTS:  Exhibitions

There are a range of community exhibitions where you can show the work you produce and perhaps even sell a painting here and there to offset any costs you have incurred.

I will regularly post information about the exhibitions to the site and you simply complete the entry form and submit to the host organisation.

There are also exhibition openings of other artist's work from time to time where we get to see what other people are doing in their work.  You may wish to go for dinner afterwards to chat about the show.

The exhibitions offer a social dimension to the experience of painting and a chance to participate in the cultural life of Perth.

If you've always wanted to try your hand at painting but are not sure how to get started then these classes are perfect for you.

Within a couple of weeks you'll be producing amazing results and will see how easy it is to produce excellent paintings within a social setting.

kind regards

Here are a few more pics of work by our beginners groups proving  EVERYONE can learn to paint with a little expert advice and encouragement ...  that's my specialty.

Ive been teaching people to paint for over 30 years; I have more than 20 years experience as a visual arts specialist in schools K-12 and 11 years at university teaching art teachers.

Ive got a PhD in art education so I know a thing or two about painting and how to teach for success.

My view is talent is pretty much a myth and EVERYONE (especially YOU) can learn to paint really well!!
