This group is for everyone who is interested in creative expression through painting and ceramics.
Beginners' Painting Classes
There are regular beginners workshops for anyone who would like to start painting with a view to coming on a field trip or building confidence in either acrylics or water based oil paints.
Weekly small group classes are held on Saturday afternoons and follow the school term. These classes suit those who have mastered the basics and want to improve their skills. You provide the materials and I provide the know-how. These classes cost around $10 per hour and run for 3 hours per week (minimum 4 students needed).
Monthly beginners classes designed to teach you how to use a variety of mediums as well as basic skills in drawing and painting are offered on a Sunday morning each month. A minimum of 4 students are needed for the workshop to run.
Costs cover site fees, tuition and materials. For some classes you will need to pay online to secure your spot... others simply pay on the day as per the event instructions.
Beginners' Ceramics Classes
Why not combine your love of painting with creativity in ceramics. In these monthly three hour beginners workshops we will tackle simple construction and painted surface decoration. All materials, tuition and firing of your work is covered in the cost ... $100. A maximum of 6 students and a minimum of 4 is needed for the class to go ahead
Everyone will produce at least one ceramic form in the three hour session and I will arrange for the work to be fired a week later when it is dry. You can then collect your piece from me at your leisure or perhaps attend the next intro to ceramics class to pick one up and create another.
Like painting, ceramics is for everyone and it's easy to get started. In many respects painting onto ceramics is rather like painting onto canvas ... the difference is it's 3D and you create the canvas as well as the image
Painting Field Trips to locations around Perth
From time to time our members go out together as a group for painting field trips around Perth. These plein air (painting on location) sessions are purely social events and there are no classes/teaching involved.
The field trip organiser (which might be you) kindly takes responsibility for welcoming everyone to the location (eg the South Perth foreshore or Kings Park) and for making sure everyone gets settled and feels comfortable to paint for a couple of hours.
The best locations are those with a beautiful view, public toilets, cafes nearby, and ample parking (eg Crawley Bay etc). If you would like to volunteer to host a field trip Ill upload your event to our site and assist with notifying members.
From time to time Ill also try to join you but most of my time this year will be spent on teaching classes in painting or ceramics so our members feel confident with basic skills in painting or ceramics.
Please send me message if you would like to host a field trip.
There are a range of community exhibitions where you can show the work you produce and perhaps even sell a painting here and there to offset any costs you have incurred.
I will regularly post information about the exhibitions to the site and you simply complete the entry form and submit to the host organisation.
There are also exhibition openings from time to time where we get to see what others are doing in their work. You may wish to go for dinner afterwards to chat about the show.
The exhibitions offer a social dimension to the experience of painting and a chance to participate in the cultural life of Perth.
Welcome to 'Perth Painters and Potters' and I look forward to meeting you soon.
