I wish I could attend! I am slowly but surely getting into the Paleo lifestyle. Saw the Dr yesterday and I am down 10 lbs effortlessly in about 5 weeks and BP down 20pts. Anxious to continue the journey!

    November 15, 2013

    • Anthony A.

Keep it going! Few things are better than experiencing a journey into health. There will be plenty of Meetups happening in the future.

If anyone needs directions please massage me. If you are taking the Metra in from the city, it's walking distance from the Elmhurst stop.

    November 16, 2013

    • Jeff S.

I'm sure glad I didn't need directions... we're close and all, but massages are off the table ;)

It's times like these where I love auto-correct

Marla's texting Anthony as I type this, but Elijah's on First (right across the tracks from That Coffee Shop) is a better choice :)

I just found out that "That" Coffee Shop is now Enlightened and they got rid of Metropolis. Boo.

Sorry for the venue change. The location is across the street and comes recommended. Hope to see you all tomorrow!

Later, I'm interested in reading this book that was recommended to me:

Just finished Part Two and going to finish up the book for our event! Can't wait to see what everyone thinks!

I have to change my status to 'maybe'. I realize my soccer league may be in playoffs at this time. I'll join for the loop lunch group if I can't make this.

I'm going to just miss this by 10 days. Boo!

    October 29, 2013

Create an event for when you're in town!! Did you figure out how long you're staying for?

      1 · October 29, 2013

    • Todd D.

Yes, I am going to text Anthony today or now or in a few hours or something, lol. Unless he sees this first. I will be landing on Sunday or Monday before Thanksgiving and then leaving for GR, MI on Wednesday afternoon as far as I know (my bro is driving). Then probably returning Sunday for a few more days, up to one week (highly unlikely though since it will be December!).

I am through with part 1 of the book and am really intrigued with how the rest of this book is going to pan out. Happy reading y'all!

    1 · October 20, 2013

    • Matt

Anthony -- Part 1 is probably the strongest part of the book, but there is definitely a lot of good stuff in the rest as well. I really appreciate that this isn't another "paleo" book, for the most part. I would describe it as Paleo 2.0, or 3.0. Or post-Paleo.

      1 · October 25, 2013

    • Anthony A.

Just finished part 2 and an so excited to see other's thoughts!

      October 25, 2013

  • Kim R.

I am new to your group and Paleo. Can't make it to the meeting on the 16th, however, I am very interested in the book. Does anyone have a good book to recommend for a newbie?

    October 22, 2013

    • Anthony A.

I concur with Matt. The main three books for being introduced to the lifestyle is Primal Blueprint, Paleo Solution and for understanding how this all came about in the current era, The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain. My personal favorite is Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint because of the simpler terms. But, it's because I love convenience ;-)

      1 · October 25, 2013

    • Anthony A.

There is also Gary Taubes' Why We Get Fat.

      October 25, 2013

  • Bryan B

I'm on board! My suggestions for future selections include "Grain Brain," "Cholesterol Clarity," or "The Paleo Coach." I've been looking for excuses to pick up all of those... ;)

    2 · October 22, 2013

    • Matt

Alison -- The Grain Brain author was recently on Robb Wolf's podcast. I haven't listened to it yet, but it sounds like good stuff.

      2 · October 25, 2013

    • Anthony A.

I vote Grain Brain if you've already read Wheat Belly

Oh no!!! Just realized I have a wedding to go to on November 16. What was I thinking?!? So sorry, I'll have to miss the first meeting :-(

    October 20, 2013

  • Matt

Does anyone have initial thoughts or opinions on the book? Or should those be saved for the actual formal discussion? I'm about 1/3 into it, and have read ahead a bit, and also digested a few of his interviews, so I've started to get a pretty good sense of the book.

    October 16, 2013

  • Anthony A.

Here is the tally, 4.5 for 11/16 & 1.5 for 11/02. I'll set the Meetup for 11/16 since more than half of those RSVP'd can make it on that day.

    1 · October 16, 2013

    • Marla S.

That time range sounds soooooo much better than 9am on a Saturday (or, any day, for that matter) ;)

      October 16, 2013

    • Matt

None of those work for me, but that's not surprising. But what I was thinking of doing as an alternative was setting up a series of lunchtime discussions so that those of use living in the downtown zoo could chew over this book in a alternative location and time.

I'd like for us to get together before the holiday season is in full swing. Please let me know what date works for you.

    November 2nd
    or
    November 16th

    October 14, 2013

    • Lynette G.

      I can do the 2nd

      October 14, 2013

    • Alison

The 2nd works best for me but I could probably do the 16th as well.

      October 14, 2013

  • Anthony A.

Does everyone have the book? I want to be sure we can start this.

    October 11, 2013

      Paleo snacks!!!

I haven't gotten the book yet. Maybe I can get it tomorrow. I dig the high quality coffee idea!

    October 11, 2013

  • Anthony A.

Ok everyone. I found a place that is both near the 290, the 88 AND the 294. Check out the link in the meetup description.

    1 · October 11, 2013

  • Anthony A.

Ok. So I'm liking the idea of having this at a coffee shop that has high quality coffee and a "conference" area where we can talk. Any suggestions? All of mine are in the far West 'burbs.

    October 10, 2013

  • Anthony A.

Hi everyone! My book is en route and I'm thinking of doing a chapter per week so we can have everyone chime in. Google Hangout was mentioned as a virtual meeting place, but I'm more of a "give me any reason to celebrate (in person) with friends" type.

    3 · October 10, 2013

    • Matt

But one HUGE advantage of a hangout, is that chances are good with the right kind of prodding and planning, we could actually get John Durant to do a Q/A with us. And if someone is so inclined, it could be the type of thing that could be published on Youtube as well. There are a lot of variation of Hangouts. Completely private ones, and those that are public and open to more people attending.

      2 · October 10, 2013

    • Cathy

As always Matt, you bring up some excellent points!

      October 10, 2013

I would definitely be interested in doing this. I loved the excerpt on MDA!

There is a brief excerpt of his book here, and he also answers some questions in the comment section.

    http://www.marksdailyapple.com/unveiling-the-paleo-manifesto-an-exclusive-excerpt/

I haven't seen any indication yet of him coming to Chicago as part of a book tour.

    October 8, 2013

  • Matt

Anthony -- Have you read this yet?

I've always seen John Durant as one of the few people that really get the big picture on this topic.

    October 7, 2013

    • Anthony A.

Negative. I'm going to buy it today!
