OVERVIEW:
Kira will teach shimmies and hip locks and gently combine them with undulations, belly rolls and snake arms. Fluid layering technique comes after proper isolations are mastered. This workshop will teach better isolation techniques and help the student more able to layer. Learn the different types of stomach rolls, and the sensual slow work that make belly dance so unique and special. Then you will shift your attention to your shimmies. From there you will learn how to incorporate undulations, stomach rolls, snake arms with powerful and controlled shimmies. After studying the technique, it is time to apply what you have learned to live music! Ken will play the various rhythms, and Kira will demonstrate combinations to the rhythms. The rhythmic patterns will also be explained and handouts will be given showing the breakdown of the rhythmic patterns used in class.

Wonderful workshop. They worked our butts off, but in a good way :) I learned a lot and would recommend a future event with these two awesome artists.

This was an awesome workshop - learning the differences for some shimmy techniques was enlightening! Loved the time spent drilling the moves without a lot of starting and stopping so that we really got quite a workout! Kira was just fabulous and Ken was fantastic - it was really nice to have a live drummer and to practice with the various rhythms. The Fitness center aerobics room was used and it was nice and spacious and properly mirrored - it was all just perfect and a very, very excellent workshop. Thanks Ameera and Akasha for working on putting together something like this - you guys are awesome!

It was AWSOME! We learned to do shimmies correctly. How to layer our moves, and to dance with live music. Ken was great as always. Learning from Kira was a real treat. Hope she comes back again.

I enjoyed this workshop the most out of the last 4 I've taken. I found it to be the most applicable to my desire to increase my skill level. I only wish Kira had had a head mike the first half so I could have heard her comments. I very much enjoyed having Ken there to play live. It's a whole different experience.
