16 km/ 4.5 hours hike - East of Paris : forêt & château de Ferrières

A little bit of exercise could not be a bad idea these days, in order to stay fit and to eliminate all the extra calories absorbed - voluntarily or not !

This sunday's hike will take us to the eastern part of Ile-de-France, enjoying the view of 2 different châteaux and walking about 90% of the time in the forest.

There is no possiblity to make it shorter and to stop this hike before the end.

The hike will also finish (at about 5.30 pm) at the RER A station "Bussy Saint George" (from there, train ride is about 25 mins to central Paris).

Level : easy (mostly flat). Suitable to anyone with little hiking experience.

Bring your lunch (picinic & some snacks too), good shoes, at least 1 L of water (incl. some hot drink if you wish to), warm winter clothes & a rain coat.

Main Meeting point : at 9.50 inside station RER E or B - Gare du nord,

AT Ground Floor level

in the glass ceiling area (main ticket counter, on the far right side of Grandes Lignes platforms & trains to North of France),

or in the middle of the correct RER E platform, direction TOURNAN EN BRIE - east of Paris.

Return price : about 12.80€ full fare - or free with the Navigo Monthly PASS :

Or the Zone 5 MOBILIS pass : 15.20€, suitable for unlimited travel that day (from saturday after midnight till sunday at same time) within the 5 zones.

If you have to buy your ticket , be there earlier than 10am, as our train leaves at 10.24 am. At or before 10.10 we will leave the meeting point to go to find the right platform.

Direction for RER E : Tournan en Brie (important).

Train is arriving at about 11.00 am in "Gretz Armainvilliers".

We can also meet directly at the destination station, near the main ticket counter.

The group will start the hike at 11.00 am sharp - so please be on time.

Costs :

hike fee : 2 Euros/person ;

Return train tickets : 6.40 € to get to Gretz Armainvilliers, approx same (TBC) to come back from Bussy St Georges

- NOT sure that a group rate can available, on both ways.

Buy the ticket by yourself (even from your doorstep metro station starting point, but in this case do not exit the RER station and just wait for the group on the right platform in Gare du nord's RER E area - which BTW is called Magenta in this case).

Pls bring exact change - and extra small change for a drink after the hike, ...

If you are not a regular hiker, pls consider a couple of useful informations :

- Bring enough drink, 1 liter or more (cold, hot or half/half, a hot drink in the winter being very appropriate as you may feel cold rapidly when we stop).

- Try to carry an empty plastic cup (or a metal cup) and a spoon & eventually sugar cubes - just in case sbdy has brought tea, coffee or any drink to share...

- A consistent picnic & snack food is useful too : energy bars or chocolate bars, dry or fresh fruits like banana,... as we do burn a lot of energy while walking.

- Make sure you wear suitable shoes for sports & outdoor activities : running or hiking shoes are a must ; city shoes are not suitable as there is usually not enough grip and you could easily fall down (slipping on a wet stone or in the mud).

+ don't forget to bring winter accessories : gloves, hat, scarf, band aid, tissues, hot water bottle ... in a light backpack (with everything wrapped inside plastic bags : useful in case of rain).

And a piece of waterproof material - in order to sit comfortably during lunch break.

Please take part in this outing ONLY if you agree with the following, important Disclaimer :

"I acknowledge that hiking is an activity with, like most sports and outdoor activities, a possibility of personal injury.

My decision to voluntarily participate in these activities is an informed decision and I am aware of and shall accept such risk. I agree to be responsible for my own actions and involvement in these activities,

and will not held the guide or the Meetup organisation responsible for any injury or problem I may encounter during this trip".

Note : if it's full you can join the waiting list.

And for those who change their mind and decide not to join this hike, pls understand the importance to ERASE your name from the Main List, & early enough please

as those on the waiting list can be more than happy to get your place !

(there is an automatic upgrade from waiting list to the main list).

Sorry that we cannot accept people who are NOT on the MAIN list by 9.30am on sunday.

Alors, à dimanche ?

Many thanks to all of you, with special congrats to Mr Arash for the quality of his photos taken & posted on that day ...
Arash is declared the group's Best Photographer for 2012 (because taking nice pics in this winter environment is definitely a challenge).
Best Wishes to all our group's members for the New Year,
with even more "quality hikes" around Paris !

Thank you for organizing the event. It was great fun. And thanks for the title although it's more the art of camera and the beauty of sceneries.
