For this class I’d like to use two extracts from David Mamet’s play, OLEANNA.
The class will begin with a physical and vocal warm up, followed by exercises to bring the scenes alive.
The ONE OFF classes provide a good introduction to the longer courses on off at the PARIS DRAMA MeetUp.
NOTE: This class will begin at 6.30pm. Though the room will be available from 6pm, should you wish to arrive early.
Pay on line, or pay on the day.
A full length play, with only two characters: a university professor, JOHN, and his student, CAROL.
Carol is struggling with her class work and so goes to see her professor for help.
When they meet again, she accuses him of inappropriate behaviour during their previous meeting. He is shocked by her accusations. He believes she’s lied. His job is threatened. The play is a power struggle, perhaps an abuse of power, by both student and teacher.
Mamet’s one of the most popular playwrights of the last 25 years. His style of writing has been a great influence on modern writers - tough language, street poetry and constant tumbling interruptions.
The script extracts can be found under the PAGES menu at the top of the site.
(Click PAGES, scroll down, click SEE ALL PAGES).
