Last night's screening went well, we hit critical mass of more than 30 people again, which is helpful for all sorts of things, mainly networking. The films were good, the people were good, folks seemed happy, so thanks to all for that.
There a lot of new people, and came-back-to-the-meeting members who are keen to do projects, so I suggest the following... we do a mini-screening this coming meeting, 'cause that is fun, and my usb key Got Eat so i didn't even get to screen myself, ha! and then we do pitches, which were once explained to me as what you say if you walked off an elevator to stand facing a producer from a foreign country who carries a loaded gun and wants an immediate explanation of your reason for being there on that floor. If you can coherently give a speech before the door closes, you won't get shot through the door after it closes again. This actually is a subspecies of pitch known as The Elevator Speech. You get more than that, 5 minutes or more, and please think to bring support materials... a trailer or footage if you have done some, a bit of script for a cold reading, etc. Anything goes.
Don't worry, you won't be asked to give a pitch, but it is really good to think of this as a chance to stand up and meet people by telling them that you want to meet them by working with them,... give your project a chance to develop unexpectedly, that is definitely what will happen.
And then after, during, or before, networking.
Btw, if you are going to bring something to screen... do not bring an f-ing harddrive, rtfm my friends [read the f-ing manual] and bring it on a usb stick. NOONE did last night. Except me, and I got punished for it, even.
If you want to demo using stills, best to bring a laptop.
cu then, have a good holiday, don't forget to chew adequately before swallowing, this is a dangerous season for alimentary accidents,
