What is Parkour? Founded by David Belle in France, parkour focuses on practicing efficient movements to develop one's body and mind to be able to overcome obstacles in an emergency. Parkour is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment--from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls--and can be practiced in both rural and urban areas. Male parkour practitioners are referred to as traceurs; female practitioners are referred to as traceuses.

So, what will I actually do to practice parkour? Well, there are two main methods: gym training and outdoor training. Gym training is a great way to practice new movements with the safety of padded floors and in a controlled environment. Outdoor training is where your parkour techniques meet reality. And of course, to improve your skills and overall fitness, there are lots of conditioning drills and exercises that apply to both the gym and the outdoors.

What will this meetup group do? We'll inform you of times and places to get parkour training from qualified parkour instructors from Texas Parkour. We may also try to do some conditioning meetups at various locations around S.A. What the heck, its always more fun to work out with partners! We'll also let you know about events in Texas and may organize carpools to help you get there.

Who are the instructors? The Assistant Organizers are all members of Texas Parkour. They have various backgrounds (gymnastics, martial arts, freerunning, etc.) but they are all great at parkour--not only as traceurs themselves, but also as instructors to help you get the most out of yourself and your body.
