Because I cannot find corn syrup in Nice, I substituted "Golden Syrup", which I got here:http://www.bienmanger.com/1F11373_Lyle_Golden_Syrup.html?ope=gg&sope=goldensyrup&gclid=CMrhk8m89LoCFYY1QgodwCkAEg
Golden Syrup is sweeter than corn syrup, so I left out the sugar. The pie could probably do with a touch more sugar though.
If you find a source for edible gold leaf let me know :-)

if you're in a hurry and can't wait for delivery, you can find golden syrup at Galeries Lafayette at Cap 3000 and corn syrup+golden syrup at Geoffreys of London in Antibes...
