Join us for a weekend of Ocoee Whitewater rafting (Saturday) and Cherokee National Forest hiking (Sunday)

Depart TIMES : 9:00 am (CT), 1st Carpool meets at Target parking lot in Antioch, off I-24 Bell Road Exit #59.    9:35 am (CT), 2nd Carpool meets in Murfreesboro at Cracker Barrel off Exit 81-B (the street in front of Cracker Barrel also known as South Church Street, or Shelbyville Hwy).

(Please note that Ocoee TN runs on Eastern Time, but I am using Central Time throughout the event page for consistency.)

Hiker Signup  Maximum: 15

Cost:  $47 payable online via the event page (The payment link conveniently takes you to Amazon Payments).  To RSVP "Yes",  you must complete your payment securely online.  This amount covers both your raft seat and your tent space at the outfitter's campground on Saturday night.  Refunds are available until up to 2 weeks before event start date.

DIFFICULTY RATING :  Saturday:  The whitewater rafting is a guided tour by a professional outfitter.  By design, no whitewater experience is required.  Sunday: the exact hike location is to be determined (as of this June[masked] writing) but you can expect that it will be a route that is Moderate to Strenuous in the Cherokee National Forest.

DRIVE TIME : 2.25 hours one-way from Antioch to Ocoee.

DIRECTIONS:  From Antioch carpool to Outfitter in Ocoee TN.  Google Link to directions. GPS location:  [masked],[masked]

AGENDA: (subject to changes) On Saturday we will meet at the carpools, then rendezvous near Cleveland, TN, and eat lunch on the road.  Following lunch, we will drive on to the outfitter by 1 pm (Central Time).  Our activity time for the Middle Ocoee river run starts at 2pm (CT).  We should return to the campground near 5 pm (CT).  We will get cleaned up, tents out, and begin the evening cookout.  Food details to be determined.

Sunday morning, we will eat breakfast, break camp, check out, and head for a hike in the forest.   Sunday afternoon we head back to the original carpool locations.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Please RSVP with integrity.  If you've signed up, then learn you cannot attend, please change your RSVP to "No, Can't Go".

Please offer your carpool driver $15 to $20 cash money for gas, vehicle usage, and driving services.  At the time of this writing, average cost of gas in the greater Tennessee region is $3.50/gal.

If you have additional questions for me not covered here, please include a Comment or send me an email directly.  I will try to get you an answer.

This is event is always a blast!  I look forward to seeing you on the river...or IN the river!

Hey Patrick, what are the plans for dinner on Sat. night? Are we on our own or are we having a pot luck?

    July 29

    • Patrick "Rogue L.

David T…I think Potluck and BYOB is the way to go Saturday night.

  • Jenifer

David, I don't know about dinner because I always think of dessert first! So, I will be baking and bringing cookies and will have plenty to share on Saturday night. Word is we will have a birthday among us, and since I haven't finalized what kind of cookie to make, I'd entertain any suggestions from said birthday individual!

Patrice, i was wondering if you are adding any more people to the go list? if yes and have room for 2 more let me know please.....thanks

    July 29

    • Patrick "Rogue L.

(Patrice? hmm...)Zaree, I have not received any interest from others to expand the Go List, so I have no plans to do so. If there is a need to add more then I could call up the outfitter, however, I might not be able to negotiate the same low rate.

Less than 2 weeks until our white water trip. Be sure to update your RSVP if your plans have changed---it looks like we have a few on the 'Want a Spot' list with whom you could exchange. Also, the To Be Determined hike for Sunday morning is going to be a trek out to Rainbow Falls. If everyone wants to keep going to Benton Falls we can, but we will need to discuss that option later.

Rainbow Falls Hike Directions: Depart U.S. 64 upon State Route 30. Take an almost immediate left into the trailhead parking area.
