Directions from Murfreesboro carpool :
Rock Island Market
1231 Rock Island Rd, Rock Island, TN 38581
The carpool(s) should arrive at the Rock Island Market about 10:20ish am (CDT).
We will convene at the Rock Island Market to re-group between carpoolers and non-carpoolers. I've included links to maps for directions. We will then drive over to the Gorge Parking Lot off Power House Rd to hit the Caney Fork area.
ACTUAL HIKE TIME: ~4-5 Hours.
HIKING PLAN: Falls Loop Trail plus "rocky shoreline", a trip through the Rock Island Riviera, and 30 foot cliff jumps from Giant Falls---if water conditions allow.
WHY SHOULD I GO? The area in, on, and around Twin Falls is a popular picture taking spot. Bring your camera. The loop trail reaches a beach area, and from this point we WILL definitely hike along the rock strewn shore line of the Caney Fork River. Possibly half or more of the whole trip will be spent on the rocks. Refer to the pictures---taken from a recent Rock Island adventure---attached here for an idea of the rocky terrain.
Also, if you want to jump off a 30-foot cliff...here's your chance.
If you are not confident in your ability to find your footing and to balance yourself on small and large boulders, then please do not sign up for this trip. If this picture makes you nervous, then consider carefully your RSVP.
Bring water and snacks. We'll break occasionally and stop a little longer for "lunch"
Please RSVP with integrity. If you sign up, then learn you cannot make it, please log on to the website and change your RSVP to "can't go".
Be sure to offer your carpool driver a minimum of $15 cash for gas and vehicle usage. Price is $3.65/gallon average as of June 30, 2014.
Post-Hike optional group grub grab in Manchester, TN.
