One of the most requested Meetup events is back!!!
Join your hiking mates as Ranger Jason shows us the ropes. If the Sign Up gets full, do not be discouraged...There will be a Waiting List, and people almost always drop off closer to the day of the event ---Organizer
QUICK FACTS :
MEETUP Time @ 1st CARPOOL LOCATION 9:00 am (CT): Target parking lot in Antioch, off I-24 Bell Road Exit #59.
MEETUP Time @ 2nd CARPOOL LOCATION 9:30 am (CT): Cracker Barrel parking lot in Murfreesboro, off I-24 Exit #81B.
Directions to Destination: Foster Falls 498 Foster Falls Rd, Sequatchie, TN 37374. GPS: [masked], -85.672996. We should arrive at Foster Falls by 11am (CT).
HIKE DISTANCE : Just the distance from the Foster Falls parking lot to Climber's Access and back up; approximately 1-2 mile total. Measuring your "hike" distance up and down the rock, is an inexact science.
DIFFICULTY RATING : Moderate to Strenuous.
DRIVE TIME : Approximately 1 HR 30 MIN one way from the Antioch carpool.
ACTIVITY TIME : 5 to 6 hours. There is a lot of 'down' time watching, encouraging, helping each other rappel and climb---it's a great Teambuilding activity! You are free to visit the trails or swim at Foster Falls before, during, after the event.
This event is a beginner-friendly introduction to Rappelling and Rock Climbing, facilitated by one of Tennessee's Park Rangers and presented at one of the most scenic locations along the South Cumberland plateau. All of the technical mandatory climbing and rappelling gear will be provided for our members. For experienced climbers, if you have your own gear, you can bring it as well.
OPTIONAL POST-HIKE MEAL SUGGESTION: Pizza Hut or Papa Ron's in Monteagle.
What you need to bring:
Personal supply of food and drink; sunscreen too, since you will spend much time exposed on top rock.
Willingness to try something different, challenging, and fun
Minimum age of 10 years (this means, kids 10+ are welcome with guardian present)
You may wish to bring leather gloves (there was a shortage of good-fitting gloves last time)
WEATHER NOTE: Event will be canceled if there is a greater than 40% chance of rain in the area; this determination is made by the Ranger. If the rappelling workshop is canceled due to rain, then I suggest we go hiking the nearby trails. Thus, please bring hiking gear.
This event is capped at 15 participants and the cap WILL NOT be increased, so please RSVP with integrity. Promptly change your RSVP if you learn you cannot attend, so that others on the Waiting List can plan accordingly.
Please be considerate and offer $15 to $20 to your carpool driver depending on the total number of passengers per car.
Email me directly if you have any additional questions not covered here, and I will try to provide you an answer.
