Do you know what to do in a cardiac emergency? National Safety Council will be conducting a CPR & AED certification course in English (which is rare in Hong Kong!) next week and I wanted to see if anyone else in the group was interested? It is a great opportunity to learn these very important life saving skills! Exact time and day is a bit flexible but wanted to see who was interested?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) can strike anyone at any time, including seemingly healthy people without a diagnosed heart condition. Providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) along with the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can restore a normal heartbeat and flow of oxygen to the brain and other vital organs. Portable AED's are available to the general public and very simple to use. The AED delivers an electric shock known as 'defibrillation' to the heart. The CPR & AED course is based on the latest, 25 American Heart Association (AHA) CPR guidelines. Students will learn Basic Life Support (BLS) for the treatment of choking and cardiac emergencies, CPR, defibrillation techniques, and what to do after successful use of the AED. The course also covers the function of the heart, early intervention for heart disease, and stroke prevention.

Course Length: 3 hours

Course Content: Actions in an Emergency, Adult/Child Basic Life Support - CPR & AED, Choking Management, Heart Attack and Stroke

Course Size: 8 students minimum!

Accreditation: National Safety Council (USA) CPR & AED Certificate - valid internationally

Certificate valid for: 2 years
Materials National Safety Council CPR & AED Student Workbook
Prerequisites: No previous experience is required. Must be over 14 years of age

Course Fee: HKD 550 per student

Statistics:
• Nearly 383,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually, and 88 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home.
• Many victims appear healthy with no known heart disease or other risk factors.
• Four out of five cardiac arrests happen at home.
• Statistically speaking, if called on to administer CPR in an emergency, the life you save is likely to be someone at home: a child, a spouse, a parent or a friend.

Victoria, I have sent various emails all week asking all to either commit or adjust RSVP, the class is set and we had exactly 8 people INCLUDING YOU. Please understand your cancellation has a huge impact on the group, now a friend of mine who wasn't planning on going will have to take the class. Canceling day of, 3 hours before in fact, for a paid class with minimum requirement is unacceptable and inconsiderate. Everyone else, the class is still on, thank you!
